Post by Lordtrunks »

I've got a factory locker out of a 3.5 rear end and i do know that one shaft is shorter than the other. what has to be done for this locker to work in a truck without factory locker

Do a search L T, someone has already tried this, the right axle is too short and does not enter the splines by much, and the left axle is too long but the splines are bigger than the axle or not long enough to cut down

Ok this is the story for the interchangeability of lockers & non lockers.

My experience applies only to the 3.5 locker but also might apply to the 3.ol models.

In the 3.5 setup, everything is interchangeable EXCPET that the left axle on the locked model is about 7mm shorter than the standard axle.

So asssuming you have a non locked axle already in the car, you can just swap over the 3rd member, the right axle will fit no problems & use the left axle that came from your locked rear end.

You also can use an ordinary locker switch to activate the pump, its very small & runs at about 4-5psi, NOT like the ARB lockers that run at 100psi.

One thing you must check though is that the centre you are putting in has the same ratio as the front.

If not just have your old crown wheel & pinion fitted , its ALL interchanegable.

Good luck, its really an easy swap!

cheers

Sorry just read you reply.

Since you dont have any axles from the locked rear end, you will have to have your old left axle cut down & resplined. From memory you simply cant just shorten & fit since the axle has to have the spline lengthened down the axle in order to fit
