I'm not 100% sure, but as long as your rig still has indicators, parkers and headlights, there should not be a problem. You said that you will attatch the numberplate, so there really isn't an issue.

HI JACK on this forum drove his RR around for a while until he bought his bullbar. He just zip-tied the plate on and had his huge orange hooks sticking out the front

I've done this. It might technically breach a rule but if you've taken enough trouble to attach your number plate I think it's unlikely you'd get even a warning from a passing cop.

The technical thing they could get you on is 'protruding chassis rail'. I went a short while without a rear bar and they pinged me for it.

I would mock up something or put a piece of steel/ali over it, at least you could then put your hand on your heart and say you did your best to make sure it wasn't going to hurt anyone

yer thats was the only thing worrying me was the chassis rails they only stick out about 3-4 inche at the most

i might just make some things up at work to cover the ends

so if some one does get hit and they land them selves on the end of the rails they dont impale them selves

not sure on what type of bar i wana make
how hard are tube bars to make

No its not legal, in NSW you must have a bumper bar or Bullbar (with all the usual compliance crap) fitted to the front of the vehicle.

Dont be a tool, fit one or the other.

better to put something over it.

theres no way id do it again, i did it last year, and they pulled me over for it, and then after seeing it was a bit modded, they decided to go over the whole car.......impounded on the spot, de-registered immediatley, and lost my license for nearly 8 months

not saying it was cause of the bullbar, it was due to all the mods, but as the cop said to me, "its your own bloody fault, we would never have pulled you over if you had the bar on"

nuff said for me

They can be picky but i have never had them say anything about my f 250 not having a bar but i think they are starting to jump on the 4wd bashing band wagon . Mate works for transport department reckons they have stricy instructions to pick all defects and top of their list are 4wd's

I don't know if I would risk it now in these modern 4x4 hating times. Although I too have done it in the past. When I was making my bumper I drove around for a few days like that - number plate held on with zip ties (had a bullbar but no bumper). And that was of course the only time I have ever been pulled up by transport (in my truck) - I thought I would be done for no bumper and I had just installed new seats that weren't engineered.

They were doing emissions tests, and couldn't test my (diesel) landrover. They didn't mention anything about the lack of bumper or the seats...

I got the seats engineered straight after and I wouldn't drive without a bumper these days.

I drove around with no front bar on a corolla for months and nothing was said.

Seems to be standard fitment on most VN's while their sik tourer bars are being made up, dont think its any big deal :D
