Vitara 88 model carby

Post by Philip A »

I havea 88 Vitara which i keep on Magnetic island and use only once or twice a year.
I usually use POR 15 fuel preserver, but even with that last year the carvby dried out and filled the jets etc with gunk. I pulled the carby down and cleaned everything but from then on its had a flat spot. My excuse s that I had BAD flu at the time.
I have had the carby cleaned by the local workshop. that didn't fix it. They recommended that I have it rebuilt, which was done in Townsville. It still had the flatspot.
I replaced all plugs, wires, rotor, dizzy cap. Still flatspot.

I wonder now if I mixed up the main jets and/or emulsion tubes, and the reconditioner just put it back togther as he found it.

Has anyone on the forum got a Mikuni Solex, and can tell me which main jet goes in which side and which emulsion tube goes where.
The main jets if I recall are 50 and 55 and the jets are interchangeable.
I assume the bigger one goes in the secondary but this is not always the case.
Any help much appreciated.

Dont know on carbs but on RC cars there is a after run oil to keep it ok when not used for a while.

Maybe there is a type of product like that for carbs as well.

Cant help u on the jets.

Before this dry out I used to
add the fuel conditioner
change the oil and filter
take out the plugs and put about a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder
put oily rags in the exhausdt and intake
put the battery on a trickle and regulated charger.
She started well with six month intervals but with a year and the hot dry climate maybe 40 plus in the locked up garage, the fuel dried to gunk.

Any one got a second hand Mikuni they want to sell????
I have a Weber DGAV which I bought but I figure I would spend too much of my 2 week holiday in setting it up. AND the bloody accelerator linkage is on the wrong side. I should have bought a Holley 180 which is the same but the accelerator linkage is on the correct side.
