3F into Hilux?

Post by ditch »

So my mate has just put a 308 in his cruiser and he's got the 3F lying around. What are the chances of getting this motor into my 4Y hilux?

Main interests are:

- cost
- time
- much to know

All that sorta shit, basically just wondering if it would fit.

Also I've tried searching for a while on here and google, no luck, so any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

you can never say a particular swap is impossible, but this is one of the swaps that should probably never be attempted. the 3F will not bolt to any hilux transmission, and no transmission that will bolt to the 3F will fit in a hilux. the motor is too long for the hilux engine bay, it is twice the weight of the 4Y, and isn't a great motor to start with (unsupported crankshaft, head/valve burning problems, leaks galore, etc). other swaps, for example a V6 commodore motor, are easier and cheaper.

cheers

Thanks for that mate, I assumed something similar because I just couldnt find any info about the swap, so I figured it wouldn't be a very good one to do. I just thought I'd try my luck cos I could get the motor on the cheap.

I might have to think about something more fesible, v6 commodore perhaps or the 5mge/7mge swap.

Cheers.

now you're talking! price up a 7MGTE, that would make a killer hilux!

suprasurf on this board has done similar swaps, would be worth a mesage to him.

The thing is, if I go with the 7mge or even the 5mge things are just gonna keep breaking, and I seriosuly doubt the G52 gear box would last very long. More money down the track.

Still, a 3F lux would get along alright!!

You'd prob need a good few inches body lift, or perhaps drop the motor and box down in the chassis?? would be different to say the least...
