Pictures of my Warn Pinzgauer 6x6

Post by RMP&O »

Insted of spam this board with lot's of pictures I will just insert a link to my forum where the pictures are posted. Beware if you are on 56k, these pictures are large and take time to load. This is a 1975 ex-racing Steyr-Puch 712m Pinzgauer. Named the Warn Pinz because it was built for racing by Warn Industries in 1994 for the 2nd Transylvania Trophy, now the Croatia Trophy. Mike Warn himself drove this truck in the 94 trophy. It is obviously a 6x6 with hydralic lockers all all 6 wheels, shift on the fly 4wd, portal axles for 20" of clearance, 6 wheel independant suspension and a central tube chassis (ie no typical frame). This truck is ex-austrian military. Tires are 34" Goodyears, it needs a winch, snorkel is in the roll cage but not hooked up in the pictures. It is a ongoing project of mine...

Sorry they not the gnarliest pictures but we having to much fun to stop and shoot pictures while fording rivers, plowing through deep snow & mud or playing in 40" ruts...but trust me it can do all that and much more! ;)

Here is one picture for a sample....

Believe it or not some of these were sold in Australia. A man by the name of Peter Farrer has one he spent many years restoring. It is very very nice...

He has some great video of his Pinz doing some off-roading around places in OZ....check it out.

No where you live is not JH but you got lot's of other things just as cool if not cooler! New Patrols to name just one...

The winch could have been used today if I had it. I put this truck (Pinz) on it's side. Luckily it was easy tog et back over on all 6 wheels and no damage to my truck. If we didn't have another truck close by and the right tow ropes my Pinz would have sat all night on it's side in the mud. So if way out in the brush alone I definately need a winch for this truck.

Make sure if you ever come back to JH to look me up. I would be happy to buy you a beer at the pub and take you for a ride in my trucks!

 lmao! Sorry have not been by the thread recently to see the replies.

Bogged!? Yes twice in the last year, that is why I need a new winch. Once in a dried up beaver pond, well it wasn't dried up all the way! Other time in a pete bog or swamp that basically was bottomless. The bog was like a carpet of grass on top of watery mud, cut the grass and sink up to the chassis. I rolled it over on it's side once recently too. Funny thing was, after we got it upright there was zero damage to my truck! Not a dent or scratch!! It also fired right up after 30 minutes on it's side and lost zero oil, just a bit of brake fluid.

Truely an awesome vehicle from every aspect. It has shift on the fly 4wd at any speed, same with locking all 6 wheels. Independant suspension is not great for wheel travel but who needs wheel travel with 6 wheel drive!? Axles are of a portal design giving me 18" of clearance at the diffs with only 34" tires. The chassis is of a unique design and allows you to slide along it's length on logs and the like. It is one hell of a fun truck! You have a few in Australia and I think I linked to a website of a Oz owner. He lives around (forgets) I think, he has video off-roading in his 6x6 Pinz on his website. LOOK AT IT!!

I will post pics of my truck in action....just may take me 30 miutes as I am on slow 56k

truck is about 6'x16' in size and around 7' tall. In stock form it has seating for like 16 people but mine is set up for seating 6 peeps in nice aftermarket seats. Truck set me back about $17k usd and I just dropped a pretty penny on it too. New they were about $100k usd so it is worth the cash I paid IMHO.

Look for pics of it soon in the members area....

These things look pretty amazing in the flesh. I was out shopping one time, and driving out, I passed by this thing, that was so strange, I had to stop and look at it. It turned out to be one of these, with Austrian rego, and left hand drive and a winch. Lol. It seems, an Austrian couple had bought it over to Oz and were touring the country in it. Awesome looking best, 6WD with 3 lockers, portal axles, 4 cyl air cooled, ect ect. I have previously posted pics on here of it.

Hopefully pics will be back up soon, so you can all see it.

it is an awesome truck....

but it has limitations. The wheel travel can and will put it on it's side if you pick the wrong line. yet, I have never seen my truck not go where other trucks can go. It usually goes much farther than other trucks. traction is unreal and the strength of the drivetrain is awesome!
