upgrade alternator

Post by sambo »

I am wanting to upgrade the alternator on my HJ60 to something which is solid state and maybe even internally regulated (doesn't matter if it's external as long as it solid-state). But the problem is the vacuum pump on the back.

What other cars have alternators with a vacuum pump on the back and are they solid state.

Or can i get a vacuum pump which is separate and run it off its own pulley, not sure what i would get one off of.

Thanks
Sam

Sam have a look on this site and browse through their alternator listings- something may bolt straight in. http://www.aea.com.au/

Most diesel alternators should include a pump I'd imagine?

i found an alternator on that web site you suggested. from a diesel patrol and looks like it should just bolt straight in.

Does anyone have one for sale.
I think it is from a gq.

and alternators that dont have the vacuum , the booster gets it from the intake manifold?

diesels dont have a vacum in the intake manifold like petrol engines. Thats why they need a vacum pump.

From that site, how do you determine if the alternators are interchangeable? There is cross reference numbers, but no way to cross reference that I can see.
