carby problems

ok well this is starting to annoy me.
The car is running rough as. Its got an aisin carb on it. I have tried giving it full throttle with revs and putting my hand over the intake and it helps a bit but only temporary. I have a feeling it is running lean because when i partialy block the intake the car runs fine. the carby was rebuilt about a year ago. I have good spark and everything else works fine. I have a suspision it may be something to do with that little screw at the base of the carb on the block side. Unfortunately i can only get a bit of adjustment because of everything being in the way. Maybe even the jet might be blocked or partially blocked.
What do i do? Fix it? Buy a hitachi one?

rough at low revs idle or hi revs or all thru rev range?
if its at low revs pull the aircleaner adapter of the top of the carby and whilst running at idle or there abouts look down the carby throat and see if you can see a steady stream of fuel coming from the idle jet if not remove fuel intake line and using carby clean spray into carb were fuel goes in than blow out with compressed air , make sure your filters are clean and your bowl free from contaminates and lines clear .
than reinstall.

Then start and run the for about 10 seconds, give it a few revs as it wont idle. The car will backfire through the carb, cleaning your jets. Once done re swap the leads and repeat the same with the other 2, then see how you go.

Best bet would be a put a carby kit through it. Have you checked for a vacum leak or other engine problem. A vacum leak would make the car idle rough and lean, so this may be worth a look too.

I would try spraying some "Start ya Bastard" around the carby when its iddling. If it starts to run better and idle speeds up then you have a leak there sucking air? you can pretty much isolate where the air is pulling.... prob a vacume pipe... split.... or off.
if that dosnt help.... its likely to b internal.... need a kit or replacing...

hey i had the same prob bout 6 months ago...it used to run fine wen i put my hand over the top leting a litle air in and used to stall wen under brakes. i found there was crap in the float chamber. just litle bits of dirt. i put a carby kit through it was 30 buks from scots took a few hours. also changed the feul filter aswell. i also put some nulon cleaner stuff in my feul...dunno if it helped but it is still runing fine
Well its still giving me crap. Wants to stall down hills. I have found out something interesting though as a temporary fix. The hose on the vacum actuated valve above the throttle cable can be rerun to a vacum point on the carby that has constant vacum and is not affected by revs, this has fixed the problem, though it has made cold starting harder. What we need is a bit more technical know how on these things to simplify them. That way we can spend money on shiny things, instead of muddy things.
Back to my post. the toy carb seems good on angles. I did some hacking the other night and seems to have maybe some more power down low when idleing through sand in 2nd 4wd high range.nicbeer wrote:Go the toyota carb.

I cant really tell (my engine is not the healthiest) but i would have to say yes. minimal but u only need small amounts on a zook.
Only been offroad once since the wheel bearing and carb has been done.
it was a cheep conversion considering my zook carb was stuffed.

a ke70 rolla carby.
Cost me nuthin but i have seen them for abour $50...
They are still a aisin carn but seem a lot simpler. Bolts on with a slot ginding to the spaceer plate.
u need a couple studs and not bolts to bolt it down.
Only some small mods to make it fit.
