td 42 oil

Post by busman »

My question is what is a suitable engine oil for a td42 with turbo('88 gq) that has done almost 380,000kms but no known service history. Hasn't burnt any oil after 2,000kms using Castrol RX and genuine filters(oil light stays on longer might have to go back to ryco's) gets approx. 14l/100 around town(bit of a lead foot) 12.5 on highway. Engine runs well and recorded compressions of 525 to 575. Can i use Castrol jmax? i have searched and the info suggested using jmax on an engine like this may 'clean it up' causing noise and possible oil consumption Castrol tech line recommended rx or crf multigrade. What are peoples experiences/thoughts?

Thanks for any helpful replies.

change oil filter to cummins fleetguard part number LF3314 and oil light issues should be sorted out as they go out fairly quickly.

in regards to suitable engine oil... each to their own.... penrite was good for me...
