Sierras are they limited on distance they can travel?
Sierras are they limited on distance they can travel?
Hey.. i was thinking about going for a bit of a roadtrp up north of the state.. i live in the south west of Western Australia..
I want to go as far as 3000km north.. i am wondering if the sierra will actually make it.... and if anyone knows of any websites that can tell me of where all the good 4wding places are on the way up... (by the coast or the inland route)...
I might just go as far as coral bay which is about 1500km... I will be taking it slow.. probably average of 500km a day...is this to much for a sierra?
Let me know cheers fellas

im not to sure about sierras in general, but with all cars if you wanna travel that distance, make sure you have essentials...
they are a small engine and would be working hard....
in the heat of w.a are they likely to overheat?
so make sure you have everything there for your radiator system...
hoses, coolant, thermostat .ect

long distance in the zook
hi mate, dont be put off by the zook. I drove all the way from darwin to perth in about 4 days. No dramas. Was sitting on about 100 all the way. I had a totally stock coilly with only 235/75 mtrs on it. Was sweet. Shockies were on their way out so a bit bumpy in spots. 500km a day is no worries. Good luck and have fun. If you do the coast road, stop at 80mile beach. Is bloodz awesome. about 1500km north of perth from memory.

yea id say give the cooling system a service with new hoses coolant and a thermostat and take the old hoses as spares (dont forget the two water hoses which go to the carby i didnt replace these and one of them decided to split). and take a botle of oil and check and top up each time you stop. might be an idea to replace the fan belt aswell. the zuk will do it keep an eye on the temp guage and all will be good.
So bascially you are talking decent trip prep for any vehicle.superzuki wrote:yea id say give the cooling system a service with new hoses coolant and a thermostat and take the old hoses as spares (dont forget the two water hoses which go to the carby i didnt replace these and one of them decided to split). and take a botle of oil and check and top up each time you stop. might be an idea to replace the fan belt aswell. the zuk will do it keep an eye on the temp guage and all will be good.
The Zuk will do that kind of distance easily, with a load on maybe a little bit slow.. but it will get you there no problems.
I now that Moose has done melbourne to cape york a couple of times in his Zuk.

No stress,
fuel range will be your major problem, a long range tank is always a good idea.
I used to do the mines around Mt Isa in mine (Gunpowder, Ernest Henry, Century) and the gasfields of Roma ex-Brisbane. Loaded with tools and all was good.
Have also done Bne-Tvl-Isa, Bne-Isa, Isa-Cns. CD Player helped with the long hauls, as did the aftermarket seats.

I did adelaide to port lincoln, 8 hours drive only stopped for fuel then drove back 15 hours later(Gave a mate a surprise bucks party) It did it easy. If someone cant handle sitting in a sierra for long time they shouldnt have one, They are renowned for being uncomfortable to the the point of it being suzuki legend!

i put new ome shocks in on flat standard springs and it was nice and smooth.check all your gear oils i used a little in the transfer and used about 1 litre in my motor over 2000km's.Crawford wrote:my front suspension is very flat.. maybe new springs first? Is this a risk or will it just be a nice and bumpy ride?
the uni on the steering that comes out of the fire wall shit it self.i lost a battery cap.
on the hwy with a trailer i was sitting on 100 >110km slowing when it came to hills.
while i was on the road i met this bloke down the bottom of wa and he'd driven from queensland across the top to wa in a 94 suzuki that had queensland modification plates under the bonnet.
i also travelled on m/t's witch wasn't a problem.
