My Yellow Sticker

Post by coxy321 »

Heading up to the Deni ute muster, I got bailed up on a back road 10min out of Deni, at 11.30 friday night.

I knew there'd be a fair chance of getting done for not having flares (dumb, i know), which i accepted. While the two cops were going over my ute (MK tray), they also got me for the exhaust (passed roadworthy two days before hand), and also tried to tell me that I had swapped the diffs front and back, for wider ones.

Looking under the bonnet, one of them then tried telling me that it wasn't the right motor, and that i'd done an engine swap - "It doesn't look right, tell me what its out of."

So after that, i then proceeded to run around like a dickhead all saturday morning looking for a licenced vehicle inspector - they were all either closed or didn't want to know me. I ended up finding a workshop behind Toyota to help.

Anyways, turns out my front and rear track were 4mm too wide (having flares fitted, it still wasn't technically roadworthy. We ended up getting it all cleared, with no REAL problems - just a copper who was a little bored.

So if my track is illlegal, with 15x7 mags (tyres dont matter cause they measure from the tyre centre), what the hell are we supposed to do when using cruiser rims???!!!! I've now got -25mm offset 15x8's on!!!

How has everybody else fixed this problem??

PS. He didn't get me for no mudflaps either - just picked the hard ones. I had to get it passed in NSW, then have it passed again in VIC before the RTA will clear the canary.

AFAIK it's like an instant fine if you are found driving the car and you have removed the sticker.

It's there because the car is supposed to be defective.

In Victoria, if you ignore a victorian issued defect notice , Vicroads will suspend your registration until the owner produces a RWC.

I am not sure if there is a recipricol arrangement between the states to act on local registrations based on interstate actions.

Depends if it is a warning defect for really minor defects such as a faulty globe out or a cracked gease nipple??, :D then Vic roads don't need to see it. The issuing officer should advise and endorse what the status of the defect is and the actions you have to take.

If the defect stipulates that you have to get a RWC then you have to present the vehicle and RWC to vic roads within 28 days or else they give your rego the chop..

Some defects are issued and you cannot drive from the spot if it is a serious roadworthy issue, etc no brakes, no steering. and you have to produce a RWC to Vicroads .

My defect had the "Major Defect" box ticked. I had 1hr to get the car parked and off the road, and I was only allowed to drive it the next day to have the problems rectified.

The car had to be passed under NSW laws, so that the sticker could be removed, and so i could then drive back home (so that its safe on the road or some crap...).

I now have to have a VIC roadworthy check done, to make sure it complies with VIC laws. After getting both a NSW and a VIC roadworthy certificate (and you have to have BOTH), I then take the car into VicRoads with both slips, and only then will VicRoads pass it off.

You get 21 days to get it all sorted, otherwise your rego is suspended, and you will start getting nasty letters from the Police/RTA.

A few years ago my mate got done for no flares at deni. He came back to seymour on sunday, had it fixed on monday, then had to drive BACK to deni so that it could be passed under NSW laws. Hows that??!!
