GQ TD42 radiator question
GQ TD42 radiator question
On my last trip, the radiator of my GQ TD42 developed a crack. The radiator shop in Dubbo was able to repair it (blocked off two pipes) to continue my trip, but I was also told that the radiator was definitley on its way out.
I am looking into my options at the moment:
- genuine 2 core replacement radiator
- 3 core radiator from Natrad for $550 which is a straight bolt in.
I was wondering if anyone uses aftermarket three core radiators for TD42s and if they have advantages over the standard two core radiators which would justift the extra money. I’m also interested in alternatives, I might not have thought of.
Cheers
Joachim

radiator Q
Hi Bartso
I'm absolutely sure mine is a 2 core and my Mav is a '93 model. Would be interesting to find out if and when they changed to 3 core. I'll have a chat with the guys at Nissan today.
Cheers

Go for the 3 core radiatior. Just had my done a few weeks ago at my local Natrad and he used an Aussie Desert Coolers radiator as standard for the Patrol.
Car now warms up and does not budge in any kind of conditions. Have been Melb - Canberra and back towing a large trailer with 5 big guys in the car and the needle did not move at all for the whole journey.

'88 GQ LWB Diesel
Out of the GQ radiators I thought the one out a TD42 was the better of the 2. Even if it is only 2 core. It has way better cooling capacity. I am sure birdy and shreq ran diesel radiators for awhile before they lashed out for better stuff again. Both these cars are turbo petrol utes.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
