2inch or 3inch suspension lift.

Post by Barry Jeffery »

Im going to do a suspension lift on my fzj105 and was wondering whether
a 2inch or 3inch would be better for general touring. Have just put gas tank under back so was thinking 3inch might be better for clearance. But not sure how you go with insurance.

im thinking exactly the same for my GU! cant decide 2 or 3 for the same (touring) and with the three would we need anything else other than just shocks and springs?

I have 2" under my GU with polyairs in the back. Fine for touring. No probs with insurance, wobbles and anything except shockers and springs. Saves a lot of bum scraping and tail lights popping out, although you'll find bigger bumps now.
The fzj105 is the Prado isnt it? in which case 2" would be about it with the front IFS and CV boots etc.

You can take a GU to 3 inches with only shocks and springs. Nothing else needed. Kits for prados will only take you 50mm above standard. To many dramas for the manufacturers to supply any larger. Does make a big difference when you add bigger rubber aswell. Kits from $1200 for prado and $990 for the GU's.

2 INCH IS NO PROBLEM WITH INSURANCE. 3 INCH YOU COULD GET AWAY WITH IF YOU HAVE LPG [EXTRA WEIGHT ETC] 3 INCH IS BETTER MORE CLEARANCE / LOOKS.

What is a good touring spring, shock set up for the cruiser.
Also a good tyre choice, Im thinking of going 265-75-16 in either
BFG all terrain or copper ST.
