buying a 80 series

i'm looking at buying a 80 series around a 96 mod petrol manual and just wanted to know what things i should look out for as i don't know much about the 80s

and second of all cross out petrol and replace with deisel

more expensive but much better on fuel, and hold value better (hence more expensive)

LOOK FOR CRACKS ON FRONT EDGE OF REAR QUARTER PANELS,ALSO AROUND BONNET STOPS ON RADIATOR SUPPORT.80 SERIES HAVE A WEAK FRONT DIFF SO YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED A LOCKER IF YOU INTEND TO HARD,OTHERWISE A BROKEN DIFF IS ON THE CARDS

i only want it as a daily driver as i need a bigger car with the kids and maybe as a tow rig down the track i realy want a petrol as i'm sick of spending money on my deisel 4 runner and how slow they are and a petrol would be cheeper to fix if anything was to go wrong with it

If you are going for petrol, make sure it[s got lpg, or YOU will end up doing the conversion eventually.

back to the point check that it's powersteering pump and box dosn't make any strange sounds like whining and steers smooth check for rust in gutters and roof plus don't be fooled by a shiny back chasy care dealy just paint over rust or mud stains, other than that just check the wheel bearings if there loose and get water in them it will cost u. in general they are a very good car with a few litlle mingels like that in the older ones like mine

Hey, I have a 1996 4.5 petrol 80 series, they are a awesome car with plenty of power, I have found it lacks in fuel economy while towing, I used to tow 2 tonnes tandem axle trailer daily...no good. I used to get 400km to 140L of fuel. Other than that if ya want power stick with a petrol not a diesel.

Mate I have a petrol and I love it.Best ecconomy has been 14.8 per 100k
Worst in the low 20s but thats flogging it.About to get a Parnell LPG system hooked up to it so will have the best of both worlds.Petrols are cheap and a good LPG system will pay itself off within 40000k.Low milage petrol cruisers are in the mid teens now

Its generally called High Pinion Front Centre

but thats only a problem in reverse

if buying a full timer check for transmission backlash

also check the rear windows around the roof and vents for rusty spots.

also check for a full service history if buying any second hand car
