ICV guidelines?

I have the opportunity of picking up a clean VT commodore ute that has been written off due to being stripped (weird I know). Its had the engine, 6 speed box etc removed, seats and headlights taken but is otherwise complete. As I can not re-register it I was wanting to drop the body on top of my MQ patrol chassis and register it as an ICV. Utes only $1500 so was wanting to know whats involved in doing this.

You might be able to do it as a reshell not an ICV, depending on location the rules are gonna be different.

PS even as an ICV you'll never legally run swampers

Not worried about legality, just to get rego and we all know the difference between the two is great. Im only running 35" baja claws anyway

The ones in the pic are 44s on a ute at autosalon....not aiming that drastic.

Doubt youl get it through as an ICV.

Someone mentioned in other threads that a typical ladder chassis will never meet the twist requirements of an ICV.

Rebody is a possiblity but you will definantly need a full engineers report so it would be better to find an engineer that will do it.

A commodore doesnt have a chassis so youl need to consult an engineer as to exactly where and how you need to fabricate the body mounts.

What running gear do you plan on running? Would be a real shame to see a VT on a 4wd chassis without an LS1 in it.

As for the ladder chassis not being up to ICV standards, what about all the hotrods with ladder style chassis? Also the chassis rails and the patrol chassis should boost the rigidity a little.

Is there some book or website that covers ICV or reshelling?

and if u look into it

hotrods dont tend to have a ladder type chassis especially not newer versions of the original chassis
its only the very early type that were like a ladder chassis , but when the chassis is rebuilt ...norm for a v8 , the design is upgraded

unless of course they r "rebodied" onto some other chassis that is a ladder type design

i posted this yesterday couldn't have worked

you will never never never pass as an icv no matter how hard you try.

in qld it is a rebody and is an approved persons code job. should cost $130. about $70 for rebody and the rest for reduced seating capacity. i have got this from the horses mouth, asked a similar question and am building a kit car with my old man that is an icv and have had several meetings with an engineer. make sure all adr's thet came out at the time of your mq are covered like wheels not sticking out, light heights, etc
