how to check the big ends?????

Post by probitch »

im working on a 88 model charade.
i know its not a 4x4 but it what my cousins bought.
he was driving at 100km/h and the oil light came on for a split second and there was a ticking noise coming from the engine.
its still there but only under revs.
the oil and water are fine, no smoke, no overheating, timings fine, compression 125psi,120psi,140psi respectively. (left to right)
took the tappet cover off and it all looks fine
so any help would be great.
cheers.

Sounds like the old CB23 engine- 993cc of awesome grunt! Either you've got a oil sender (or wiring problem) or theres an oil pump problem.

David.... former G11 Charade owner- just put a Jap import CB70 EFI twin cam turbo into it like I did! 15.6 second quarter miles no probs.

Not when you consider we're talking about a 1984 model Daihatsu Charade fitted with a 3 cylinder 993cc engine! I built it back in 1995 and back then it would beat 95% of the V8's over here off the lights up to 100km/h. It would also out accelerate them up a local hill from 80-130km/h (got to love a 7500RPM limit!)

and i thought 6500 was high!

must be embarrassing for the v8ers to get beat by a 3 cyl.

what made you sell it? and why didnt you jus take the engine out and put it in the feroza?
