Hi guys.

Just after a quick answer. Going to be pulling all my vinyl and underlay out of my cruiser, and just wondering what sort of trouble im in for.

Somewhere my car is leaking, and its getting damp under the vinyl often, and so im ripping it all out until i can solve the problem.

So, to those who have gone before me, i have never attempted such a job, and just wondering what sort of condition i can expect everything in when i pull it up, and will it be ok to just lay back in when im done?

Just not sure how its all attached, like is it all glued to the floor and im going to rip it when i lift it up?

I could and probably am wrong but it should be screwed down under the door lining? Does that make sense?

you will prolly find u need to take ur seat etc out to get it out, and prolly find the leak is a bung plug in the floor that has popped out

Ill rip the seats out next weekend...

When it rains heavy, water gets in and sits right in the corner of my footwell, (below and to the right of the accellorator. Took the side cover off, but cant seem to see any traces of it running down there, so thinking it might be coming in from the front somewhere, or what spazbot suggested.

So, its just take the seats out, rip up the vinyl... THen just glue it all back down when done, or leave it out and and just paint the floor with rustguard?

above your kick panel there is a seem u will have to lie on your back to see it sometimes leaks there

I had the same leak in my cruiser.

2 problems. Water was running down the firewall when it rained and came in through the rubber grommet that has the wiring harness out to the engine bay through it, above the accelerator pedal.

And the drain for the water run off, from around the wiper motor gear was blocked with mud, and used to fill and get in through a crook seam i think.

My HJ75 tray back leaks on the left hand side of the cab. Blowed if I can work out where from though. It drips of the large round plastic that I presume is summat to do with the ventilation setup.

I've pumped heaps of goo in around the windscreen and made sure the drains under the bonnet hinges are clear.....still leaks.........

grrrr. I just prop the vinyl up with a stick until it dries, make carrying things I would like to keep dry a bit tricky though............

I have had the vinyl outa my 60 a few times, you do need to get teh seats out and the trimming around the doors. you can put a slice in the vinyl and get it out without removing the seats but it would be better pulling the seats out first so you can find the best place's to run the cuts. i have a fair bit of water coming into the front of mine in the rain, i think it is because of 2 things.
1. Rust in the firewall- no idea how bad it is in behind the wiper arms!!
2. because i lost the 2 cover plates for the firewall giving access to the wiper arms, The water got MUCH worse after i removed these and then lost them dam it!! :cry:

I wouldn't glue the vinyl back down as you don't know when you want to get back in there to remove rust or other gunk. with my new truck i will be removing the vinyl probablly twice a year to clean out all the sand and stuff under there. wasn't worth it in my 60 as the body is just about dead :cry:

also on the note of vinyl (sorry if this is taken as a hijack!) what do people think about the difference between vinyl and carpet? i was told by a guy (inspecting a truck i was going to buy) that vinyl sweats more than carpet leading to a higer chance of rusting out the floor??

Once its out leave it out. Then get some aluminium checker plate and proceed line the floor to make your 4b so you can wash it out with a hose. A mate did that and it is schmick.

Id agree with the vinyl sweating... but i wouldnt have carpet either...

I think id rather have nothing, just not sure wat extra noise to expect in the cab with all that deadner removed...

You might have a rust hole through to the drain under tha valence panel. This is where the water runs off the windscreen too. Worst there could b rust under your windscreen seal. I've seen this on both the cabs I had. If it has been leaking for a while dont be surprised if the foot well right underneat the pedals has rusted out. Just about every lux I look at at the wreckers has this. This is all for second gen luxes. If I were you Id leave the vinyl out and get some of those moulded rubber mats. That way of it leaks or gets dirty you can just pull em out.
