Best model hilux to modify as of road 4by

As above. always had landcruisers and dont know much about hiluxs, what is the best in the older solid axle type for straight offroad toy?

Any solid axle. They went up to 97, there are some ifs between 89 and 97 though. They all had crap steering, so X over is a must on all of them. The rest depends on engine. Pretty sure there are no EFI options, started post 97 with the 2.7 3rzfe. The best petrol of the bunch is 22r 89-97, easy to adapt EFI from corona. Don't know much about the diesels but I would think the 89-97 2.8 considering its bigger.

I like the gen 2's 84-88 but the gen 3's 89-97 have better engines. So they might be the go. But then if your going to put a bigger engine in it does not matter.

bigger breaks
full trusted front diff housings
bigger motors
5 speeds
power steering on all but 89 (and maybe 90) model ones as standard

I will say Gen 2 because I have one and its easy and cheap for parts and not to hard to mod up.

i can say the same thing about mine, i have a gen 1, cheap as to mod and cheap to repair, even panels are pretty cheap and personally i think they look the best done up they look tuffer

Gen3 are the shit, but also expensive. If its just for a basher id go an older one.
