Toy/Mcnamara centre conversion

Toy/Mcnamara centre conversion
I want to put an 80 series high pinion diff centre in the front of my Rangie. Is it possible for J-Mcnamara to set it up to suit the Rover 24 spline axles with an open centre (Maybe Traction control). If not is it possible to do this using a J-Mcnamara locker. So is this Possible??????
I am running 33 inch tyres. At a later date I can upgrade axles and cook the CV's if I need to.
For the rear I am thinking of the Hilux centre/J Mcnamara locker and maybe 30 spline axles.

You need to fit a high pinion in the front to clear the track rod, you wont be able to use any stock rover axles at all except maybe the stubs if you use rover cv's. Any locker that will fit the 80 series center or rear hilux will be ok - do JM make toyo lockers ? At the minimum you will need 3 x jm axles or 4 if you use rover cv's - a long side 60 series axle will fit if hilux cv's are used.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
JacMac will make the locker to suit the Toyota diff, but with 24 spline sides so that Rover off the shelf axles can be used. I dont think a rover hemisphere will fit the Toy 3rd member easily, there are some minor geometry differences and CW bolt patterns. It'd be more cost effective to fit the JM locker. I doubt you will get any other locker into the toy 3rd with Rover sides, at least "off the shelf."

Thanks Slunnie, I thought this was the case. Yes I am trying to keep bits off the shelf as much as I can. I believe once I upgrade my axles to the treated 24 spline and heat treat my Rover CV's they will be plenty strong enough for my 33 inch tyres even if I give it a thrashing?????
Maybe I won't need to upgrade axles and CV's or do you think once a locker is in the front then the stock axles will be more vulnerable?
Any idea how much the locker for the front will cost suiting it to the 24 spline axle or should I give them a call??
Thanks again

Everything can be broken. Just depends on how hard you thrash it. I think with the tyres it depends on what tyre you run and how relentless you are. I ran 33's on a standard driveline for ages, and with mechanical empathy it lasted. On the few occasions where I really stuck it to it, the rear diff centre and short axle let go. Now its full maxi/ARB.
The JacMac locker I think is about $1250. Its an airlocker, but better designed than the ARB in my opinion.

If you want to run your heavy duty Rangie axles that can still be done, we
are having some 24 spline spider gears made to go into the Toyota ARB Air Locker to allow use to continue to use the maxi-drive or equavalent heavy duty 24 spline axles.
Let me know if you are interested as I can easily get another set made up whilst ours are being made.

Wow,
How much are those spider gears (roughly)?????
Excuse my ignorance but would you need the arb Locker for it to work or is this possible for an open centre?? Also could a J Macnamara locker be fitted to this if I decided to go that way?
It sounds like what I want to do but I am not cashed up at the moment unless they are cheaper to do at the same time (maybe)

jm makes locking diffs to suit rover, salsbury, toy.
jm toy locker in toy centre will fit in rover housing.
jm locker is better designed than the others.

I am just trying to clarify what 'smithy jr' is saying because it could save me some money in the short term.
I would prefer to get a vacuume Jm locker if I could.
Mind is at the moment with all the possibilities.

Yes I am aware of this but usually people go for the specailly built toy axles (J Mac 30 spline I think) for the Rover and get toy or longfield cv's. I am wanting the diff setup to suit Rover axles 24 spline instead of toy stuff.jm makes locking diffs to suit rover, salsbury, toy.

Thanks for the info guyes. I just phoned J Mcnamara.
For the front $1350 for an air locker for a toyota centre to suit 24 spline axles. He no longer does the vacuum lockers.
Rear axles and flanges are $660 to suit the toy cente in the rear.
It is $2900 for a rover hypoid locker with the 4.1 ratios
For my rear axles, what is the spline count that I need to suit the Hilux centre?

I noticed that the diffs and axles I got to upgrade to the stronger Rover CV's are still 10 spline and it is a pain to do the front when it brakes so at this stage I have decided to go for the 100 series 4.3 ratio front and get my axles from J-Mcnamara suited to the 100 series 30 spline and get Hilux Cv's.
If the diffs I had were the 24 spline then it could have worked for me for a while.
