Is it worth driving up for the spectating in a 2wd car?
Or do you need a 4wd to get around the stages to spectate?

Anyone know if you can cart ya esky round with you and have a few frothies while watching stages, or is this frowned upon?

The OBC website never really gave much detail as far as spectating. I emailed them several times and then end up calling them myself and they posted out the info. Email Sharyn Vanderhorst [sharyn@outback4x4challenge.com] and ask for info. There is a bit of driving between stages, and you drive right up to the action in most cases so you could grab a coldie from your fridge. I must admit, there was no one just sitting around drinking. You got high enough from the action, however we did enjoy a few drinks when we got back to camp around the fire each night.

Hi Challenge Competitors,

Dates for 2006 - Friday 12th to Saturday 20th of May 2006

Note 4x4 Monthly have printed the WRONG dates in their calendar.

Planning is well under way for the 2006 ARB Warn Outback Challenge.

Here is an update;

Already entrants from Australia along with 2 entrants from USA, 1 if not 2 from South Africa (1 is Terrence), Possibly 4 from New Zealand.

We have already visited properties including the mud property Viewmont which we will use in 2006 and Denian which is undergoing a sand revamp. We were pleased with the competition areas and the individual stages so will continue along similar lines.

This year are putting extra efforts into the planning of the event. We have 11 marshal meetings scheduled the first which was held on November 8th. These meetings will ensure all marshals and area managers are well informed and will produce better stages and a better experience overall.
Already we have had some awesome ideas come from this first meeting.

We have taken on board comments from all competitors since the 2005 event and we are looking at ways we can allow competitors to catch up more than just at the beginning and then the presentation.

Our Passage Controllers are part of the planning process so they can be a well informed link between competitors and the organisers during the event.

Communications have been upgraded with new UHf repeaters, landline telephones, supplied phones for Passage Controllers and greater use of satellite phones and HF radio.

Pre planning and preparation is high on our list of priorities so we will close entries in February to enable us to plan the best event with the numbers we know. This will allow us to set up number allocation, pre scrutineering, logistics regarding special stage timings and also setting up information for press to help promote the event.

International competitors - we have Chris Hummer going through our information and updating it with current regulations to make shipping your vehicle easier. As soon as this has been completed we will send that out.

Whilst we have already received entries from quite a few of you and we are pleased to see many from new competitors which is great for the sport. This is a reminder for the rest of you to get your entries in now if you want to enter.
The form which is attached is very basic so print it off, fill it out and send it through with the deposit to secure your place. If you are not sure of your co-driver just put TBA. Please ensure you give us your email address, or that of someone who can pass information onto you. This is the most efficient way for us to communicate.
We have had conversations with many people who have expressed interest in entering, we'd love to see you as part of Australia's toughest 4wd event so do it now!

Attached are supplementary rules, CCDA regulations. remember we use the tyre size in the supplementary rules!
We have also attached a simple entry form and credit card form which can be faxed or you can send the information through to us in an email. Once you have entered we will send through more information.

For those who have already entered, you will get another email from us in the next week.

Paul and Sharyn Vanderhorst

I think i should probably do a vic winch and i doubt i'll have a capable truck before next vic winch well maybe but i doubt it....

I wonder if Krimnl will lend me his and he could be my navi.....  i doubt it though there is no way he could trust me with that amount of power he has in that....

may have already found a shorty to start work on. Its diesel but auto  ..... see what happens with it all

But its going to be MWB anyhow  with a few little cool items.
