Can anyone help wiht info on welding diff in my X90.
will be OK on road?
Or dose anyone know of a LSDiff to fit in vitara houseing?

I ran a weld up in the back of my zook for 6 months....it drove ok but i eventually got bloody sick of it...if u r doing a lot of road driving then i dont recommend it, but off road they work awesome

Yes I do most of my diving on road.
I will have to keep saving and get a Air Locker.

I'm using welded rear on my lwb sierra, it is my daily driver and my weekend fun, proper lockers have got to be better, but my welded diff cost me about 10 bucks fer oil, and petrol to my mates place...I have no trouble on the road, its very predictable, but of course you need to learn new handling characteristics, christover

G'day all,
I'm thinking of welding my front up that way when the hubs arn't locked in it doesn't affect steering or tire wear. Surley you would get use to the limited steering off road :?:

Welding your front will only end in tears, you snap lotsa CVs very quickly and steering will be a Scanas, its not worth it, better off welding the rear and spending $$ on a decent locker for the front

My Zook is my DD, and I have a welded rear. I have MTR's which seem to skip (when turning) more quietly than other tires, I think the way your car behaves on road with the welded rear will depend on your tyres.

If I air down and set the rancho's to 1 its a pig on road but 30psi with Rancho's on 3 its no real hassle (except slow tight turns in the wet).

Much worth it offroad, I cant believe I didn't do it 6 months ago.

wait for suzuki viagra to come on, i was talking to him on the weekend and he just welded up the rear in his vitara, i'm sure he'll be able to let you know how it's going. :)

I welded my Vitara last week.

It was a pain in the a$$ for around town and particularly tight parking spots and reverse parking. If you mainly drive on road and use it for all your shopping and stuff I'd say don't do it. Save the money, fit an LSD, or save up and go ARB or put a locker in the front where it won't affect you on road.

For my once upon a time $3000 Vitara (now at least double and still rising!), $3000 on Airlockers front and rear was overcapitalisation - but for an X90 which still has to be worth $10k then it's worth doing properly.

Antt'll sell you his autolocker to go in the rear if you like.

A good LSD if it's got strong enough clutches is a big improvement without some of the bad side effects, even if it's not a locker. See the difference in the LSD's in the Patrol and The Cruiser - the Patrol one is brilliant. Unfortunately the Suzuki one is usually $900...... - not too much more and you can go Airlocker.

I haven't been using my welded rear on the road much since then - 2 days later a night 4wd trip went horribly wrong - I dropped the front main seal, drowned alternator no 4 and starter motor yet again.

Had the weekend off and now starting to build up enthusiasm to fix it again - sorta about 1/4 way through repair alternator/starter motor front main seal.

Hopefully the engine isn't cactus, but when you try and drive through 4 foot high water crossigns 5 or 6 times these things happen. The first 4 times no problem, but I KNEW when I was snatched out the first time I shouldn't try the same line with more revs, but........ :roll:

Just call me Submarine Suzuki instead.......

nothing wrong with a welded diff as long as you weld the right parts or down the road she'll spit the spider housing , cv's on zooks hold up pretty well if your tyres are 31's or less just dont try reversing over big rocks as it puts more strain on the cvs and gets worse if your turning in reverse over rocks but thats no different than what an easy locker or lockrite would do if ya got the dough get an air locker if ya don't get a welder either way lock em up :D
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

i'm still not decided on rippin it out, cause i don't have enough for an airlocker just yet, but its a pain when i'm in the city during the day, on the freeway it's fine, and around the suburbs its fine, just tight cornering and stop start traffic really get tiring after a while. i was thinkin about putting it in the front, but noones been able to tell me if its interchangeable :?: , and i don't really wanna put too much stress on the ifs

yes it's intechangable with some work (as is Sierra/Vitara stuff apparently) but there's a lot of people who would tell you to pi55 off cos they don't want the greif. I keep hearing that the alloy cases can't take the load, and others say the CV's can't cope. But - I dunno if that's better or worse than CV's and diff spinning at huge revs and then loading up when traction returns. Maybe some of the true engineering experts like overkill can tell us.

I'd say do it - at own risk. If you bust the alloy case modify a rear steel case with some cutting and welding, and put your front diffs in that. then if you bust CV's we know the answer :P

Well owing to a phucked rear lockright i have gone back to a rear weld up now.....at least i know how it handles and they are fairly predictable.

Antt, put it in the front. No change on the road and offroad you get used to real quick, don't notice it after a while. I've had my front welded for 1.5 years now, and just did my 1st CV and that was totally my fault.

Front locker will let you go slower = less risk of damage...

I hear people that say don't do it...yet I did a whole night run, lots of turning etc, no issues with steering, sore arms etc...
