hey guys
i am sort of modifying my truck, but i am doing it on the cheap so i thought i let everyone no what im doing.
so far i have a 1989 pajero wagon 3.0 v6
that i got for free cause my parents were going to trade it in and get nothing for it, so i took it off their hands, this is why i am doing it on a budget.
219000kms
brakes just overhauled and valve stem seals just fixed.

Dude if you do a 2" spring lift, you should be able to run 33's
If you end up doing a 2" body lift aswell you will be able to run 35's
There are threads on here about how to do body lifts, check the sticky's up the top of the forum

ok i sourced some GQ rear springs and they look massive. i got them from pedders they were just about to throw them out so i got em for $20, bloke at the wreckers tried to sting me $100. so i might have a go at putting them in tomorow.
also i had a look and my torsion bars and i am confused as to how i adjust them to get more height any info would be appreciated
now i have also read about disconecting the rear sway bar to get better rear wheel travel. does this affect on road handling and i also tow a trailer for work every day will this be affected.

Be careful with how much lift this will give the rear of your rig. I tried some standard GU springs in the rear of my 92 shorty a couple of weeks back and it gave me an additional 3 inches of lift (that is on top of the 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension lift I already run) Hey it's nice to see the road but a meter or so in front of the car is a little bit close for my liking.
Hopefully the GQ springs work better for you in a LWB but you will always be governed by the IFS front as to how high you can raise the rear.
Sound like you got a good start though on a project vehicle as they don't come much cheaper than a freebie.
My advice - take your time and hunt around for bargains. Research evrything as much as you can before making a big mod and learn to use the search function on this forum (not only in the mitsu section but the whole shebang) You can do a lot a mods on the cheap especiallly if someone has done all the hard work before you and ironed out all the bugs.

i live in knox city area, where abouts are you, im a bit of a beginner so i havet done lots of wheelin but when i do go me and me mates go to gembrook and local spots and where ever else we can go

They measure out to 34.6x11.9" IMHO you will need 5.29's with a 3.0V6 to turn them ok and 2.85 t/case gears for offroad.
Not really a daily driver tyre but perfect to bolt on for those hard day trips - awesome in the slush and in some ways better than a Centipede particularly lateral grip.
The only problem with this tyre is that it doesn't come in a true 35" like the Centipede. But I know 35" JT2's are being tested at the moment but they are worried that it will become the no-1 selling tyre ahead of the Centipede and they will be stuck with a lot of old stock.
With tyres for a Paj (if your serious about offroading) forget 32"s and go straight to a 33". A cheap way to go is leave the standard road tyres/rims as the daily driver and get a set of 33" Mongrels as bolt on's.

havent got tyres yet but i should have them in the next few weeks, cant really afford them atm cause i have been off work following a shoulder operation. but yeah i will order simex in either a jungle or extreme trecker in what ever size is closest to 33x12.5x15. im keeping my original wheels and tyres for on road use so i dont chew through petrol and i also tow a trailer for work so it just wouldnt be safe running 33s. i would love to run 35s but its too much hassle and too expensive atm so i thought id just get 33s for now and see how id go.
You should be able to do up a snorkel for less than $500....alot of the guys are going to pipe & tube these days, and it does look good if done right.
However, if you do end up going with the safari snorkel option, keep in mind that the NG air filter does not line up with the safari snorkel. You will need to do a bit of fabricating to get the snorkel to hook up to the air filter.

hey UAV, and a few others i dont understand, for me, paying 220 odd for a monoform tyre just doesnt stand when after a bit of hunting around i can get brand spanking new Nankang Mudstars for $180 a tyre fitted and balanced, and apparently theyre a bit of alright too i just cant justify paying 220+ for a tyre that isnt even brand new

To be honest, i'm just a bit surprised that you feel they're not 'decent' what are you basing that on? Ever tried a set....or seen them in action, on road or off? Bit of a generalisation.............
Also, keep in mind that you are getting centipede like grip for about $200 per corner rather than $400. (for a 33') e.g. half price & almost identical performance.
Anyway each to his own.

well me and a few mates went or a little trip to anglesea for the day for a swim cause it was hot and a bit of wheeling was a good fun hot day
that turned into a long hot day with a bit of rain after my mate snapped his tailshaft at the diff so didnt get home till 1230am after spending 4 hrs in geelong trying to fix to drive home but ended up hiring a tandem trailer and driving home and it took over 2 hrs and when i got home i realised i my tranny was leaking pretty bad at the cooler.

Getting back to the cheep spring thing, I have done what was sugested on the Americam 4xwire sit re latter model Paj springs (I used 1996) in my Gen1 and got 2" lift SWB, if what you read in the forum is correct re coil spacers from the GQ you should be able to get the same lift for your LWB and on the cheep.
I picked up the springs for $30 each from the wreckers they are genuine paj springs (no probs with insurance) and are progressive to boot. They give a great ride, I also picked up some arb shocks (front and rear) from a Gen1 at the same time from the same wrecker, must be lucky some times....
