Silverstone MT112 sports vs Pro Comp Xterrain
Had a quick look to see if this comparison had been done. Couldn't find any. Which one is better in rock, mud, wet clay, dirt, tarmac (wet and dry)?

Sounds like you're simply after the best all purpose off road tyre (and on road) and my opinion is simple: Mickey Thompson Radial Claws.
I think you'll find about 66% will say that, and the other 33% will probably cry MT/R's......
Sorry to go off topic.... None the less, how did you get down to these 2 tyres?

Personally I haven't had any experience with the Silverstones.
When I chose the Claws late last year I asked all the same questions, and spent weeks researching. For me I was choosing between Claws, BFG M/T and Goodyear MT/R. From which I went for the Radial Claws (Bias are double the price, and not road friendly) and I have no regrets.
They love all types of terrain, not just mud. They have tremendous grip. As a brief example, on a trip to Lithgow descending the steepest part of the Spanish Steps (not hard) which are a series of rock ledges. Most vehicles there would begin to descend each step, to the point where the tyre passes half way and then slide to the bottom of the step. Yet with the Claws (33" on mine) at about 15psi I could literally stop the truck at this point and sit there, they just hang on.
They seem to be wearing good for what they are too. I've racked up probably 20,000 on them and i'd say they're about a quarter worn, they still look chunky as.
But yeah, that's my own experience. I will definately buy them again, the only minor downside is there are a few tyres out there for less $. Though they sit int he same realm as BFG etc....
Oh yeah, and the bling factor kicks ass!

curentley on my rig i have a set of Mickey Thompson Radial Claws not to inpresed with thear side ways control and for the more extream stuff i run a set of silverstone extreams thay shit all over the mickey t's but the mickey t's wear on the truck when i brought it and are down a bit on tread both sets are 35''
i would actually chose the silverstone mt-117 sports again over mickey-t's because, :
* there is always rubber touching the road in the centre which makes them smooth to drive on & less road noise
* i could never locked em up even when trying, they grip well
* they don't wear all that much which is awesome
* pretty damm good against offroad abrasion
* worked awesome offroad in mud / clay etc.... work alright on rock but they are radial so
& they look better

I never had Siverstones,so can't coment.
XTerrains I am considering for the next set.I have heard many good reports from people that have used different tyres.
I'm driving on MT/Rs at the moment and it's second set of them too.
Happy with performance and wear.
From what I heard XTerrains are even better than MT/Rs.

I went to skene this winter, guy in a prado got stuck in the snow on a hill, then in his efforts to get going slid off the track and into the spoon drain-he was running mtr's. I pulled up behind him and watched him slip and slide his way back onto the track. For shits and giggles i put my gq on radial claws into rear wheel drive expecting to get bogged. No it just gripped, didn't spin a wheel and drove up the snow.
The claws will be better offroad except rock, and slightly worse on road, however they still are way better than the bfg mud terrains on and offroad that i was running previously.

Coming off filming the 8 day XI we were impressed with how well the Claws did when run backwards...but strictly only on the very dry loosely packed dirt and rock hills. The only car to get close was Norm Walters on BFGs with big horsepower.
The Sports will perform excellently in mud and have amazing on road abilities as does the Xterrain.
From testing the two tyres in the high country we found the Xterrain to be too brittle and it lost lugs on tracks that barely scratched the Silverstones.
The Xterrain has won the outback which proves that it is a great all terrain tyre but it can not match the Silverstone in mud or on price.

Have done the same on my MTRs, dudes backed up about 500+mtrs as they couldnt get up this hill, most were GU's with AT's, or one on some MT I never seen before, but I got thru straight away, no probs. MT117 Sports are a great tyre and at $260 odd each not to bad price.
MT radials claws are IMHO (and many others) one of the best alround tyres available.
I have seen them work excelently on rock, in mud, down the beach, up loose climbs and wear pretty fair onroad.
either of these tyres arnt a bad choice.

Sport has a more squared shoulder so tread depth remains constant but 117 original and Xtreme have highly curved carcass and hence far greater depth at shoulder (Xtreme~ 44mm).

Very interesting.... admittedly it has been a little while since I have 'touched and felt' a Silvery, however when I was selling them reasonably regularly, they definately had a shallower tread. This must have been changed of more recent times (geez I'm getting old ).... time for me to do some more research.
