No they don't.

My wife has a 99 model with no airbags or abs.

mid 2000 is when they got the air-bag, the same time they went to the twin-cam motor

Series 1 ended July 2000 from memory so anything prior to that has no airbag. Series 2 (twin cam) all have airbags
Series 1 are great due to no airbag - apart from being easier to do a body lift and fit bars - as you can use for top glove box for:

a) Remove the lid and you have a kind of "Jesus Bar" to hang onto - which they lack.

b) Drill some drain holes in the bottom, run hose from these holes down and out of the body, run a t-piece hose off your air cond into it and "presto" little cooler box :D

c) Fit your comms in there to hide form prying eyes and thieving hands.
DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender
