The T25 turbo is the older style made by Garrett.
The GT25 is the new generation of turbo and uses newer and better technologies to make it more efficient and produce more power with less lag.
They utilise newer bearing technology and better wheel trim designs which provides less shaft movement and greater load bearing capabilities.
Its all about what you want to spend and that determines which one you choose, although the GT25 is a much better turbo.

T25's came fitted on the ca18det motor in the nissan s13. They make about 130kw from memory on the 1.8 litre, run out of puff up high if you run high boost through them?
What sort of displacement is the 1hz? if its anything around the 2.5-3 litre id recommend a t03 off the vg30det or vl turbo. Maybe even an rb25det turbo as these are a similar size but are ball bearing. Cant run more then 14psi through them though as they have a ceramic exhaust wheel and it will sheer off, got a few at home to prove it
Is it a diesel? Im not familiar with the motor at all.
Cheers

the actual designation of the turbo doesn't give you a lot to go off since there is a whole world of variation in wheel and housing trims for any given turbo - if you are going full custom you need something off an engine that produces about 120% of your target power (around 130kW is the best you'll get out of a non intercooled 1HZ, so a donor engine of 150 - 160kW), and with a similar, unboosted airflow, eg 3.0 litres @ 6000rpm is close to 4.2 litres at 4200rpm, which is around about the 1HZ redline.timbocruise wrote:its a diesel 4.2 litre
anyone from in here help??
DUMBDUNCE HELP!
a ceramic turbine is fine for a 1HZ - exhaust temps are low and you will never overspeed it unless you go stupid with the boost, in which case you will also damage the engine.
all those figures are just a guide and remember almost any turbo is better than none. obviously a weeny little turbo if a pulsar ET is TOO SMALL and a monster off a 900kW drag racer is TOO BIG - just use some common sense.

second that. I have done a couple of 1HZ's using the roller bearing/ceeramic turbine job off the VG30DET from 300ZX, they spool quickly and make plenty of puff for 1HZRb25sil80 wrote:Going off what was just posted id say definately something in the t03 family. Perhaps one off a vl turbo (rb30et) or early 300zx (vg30det). They are both ageing now and can be hard to find in decent condition. Normally pick one up fairly cheap and just throw a bearing kit at it!

a rebuild is likely to cost in excess of $500, and a useable, working turbo can be had for $300+, so it's probably useful for spare parts, but not much else.timbocruise wrote:what about a turbo off an R33 skyline? T28 or T03 i think they are?
it is on ebay but has a broken shaft, i know plenty of spare parts people but what would a shaft cost? it was broken when the turbo was off the car
the shaft is usually pretty hard to break - usually bearings or turbine/comprssor wheels are the bits that break

get a compression and leakdown test, and put fresh big end bearings in it. 2H requires a smaller turbo - same turbo will work, but will have significant lagevil_hitman wrote:Hijack time.
Would the same turbos be suitable for a 2H?
and what are peoples on opinions on whether i should rebuild the engine first? it has around 340k on it.

what sort of figures should i expect and could you recomend someone who can do it (in Melbourne).
I dont want a race motor, It needs to last, just a little more pull as i'm running 34" JT's (thinking of going 35's) and dont want to change diff ratios as i run std tyres on road.
Cheers
