yesterday I took my paj out for a bit of fun and a couple times in steep downwards inclines the transfer case popped into neutral. I havent had any time to see why but it has never happened before. Has this happened to anyone before and if so can you tell me what the problem was? A mate told me that his old mans jackeroo did a similar thing just before the transfer case packed it in. it was only on down hills, climbing was not a problem!
Jabber gone. Now have 98 nissan terrano and a 94 4.2ldiesel rv troopy on 33s slowly getting the fancy bits. How the hell do I change my user name?

I had the opposite happen to me last weekend (97 NL Auto). Mine popped out of low range when climbing a steep hill... stayed in going down the same one though.
I can't find any posts re this (yet) but have had detent springs, transfer lever adjustment, poorly fitted rubber boots and worn engine mounts suggested as causes.
Can anyone else help?

I did an oil change earlier and while I was under it I had a look around! It looks like the rubber around the transfer shifter is hitting on a few things, must be enough to knock the shifter into neutral. I can handle that though, its better than replacing my transfer case.....
I think its the result of doing the body lift, allthough the last mod I did was lifting the springs.

I would venture that it is the transfer lever catching on the body work. The fact that it happens on steep downhill supports my guess.
Take the rubber boot off the transfer lever, so that you can see if it catches on body, when going downhill.
Fix would be mountings (if they are not OK), bending lever to clear, modifying body work.
A general problem would have shown up in level, uphill and downhill travel?
