Shock hoops are good because you can make them to suit your requirments and also to suit a better shock.
I've just put shock hoops on my zook along with luxy diffs and custom coils. So far they work really well.
But all depends on you want out of your zook.

I s'pose the main reason you would want to put shock hoops on is that they allow you to put the biggest shock possible on & you can cofigure the arrangement to however you want. We used to run twin koni's (to suit a l'cruiser I think) on the front back in the day when we did class 8 off-roading, though now we only run a single. We did our own. All you need is a pipe-bended, a good mig, (know how to use the mig or a good mate that does), the good old angle grinder & good neighbours.
