Have a 95 XJ, put a new radiator and thermo in it, and it now boils as easy as pie. The block was flushed. Even with the thermo removed it still boils. What did I do wrong?
if ya want sum good advice take it to john at choice radiators in bellvue, hes the only guy that i will trust, has got all the good gear and nos what hes doin.
Gauge gets to half ....... but the overflow bottle flips it's lid and water gushes everywhere. We get the full gurgle noise, steam, top radiator hose sucks in ......... then we sit and have a cuppa.
The radiator cap hold a certian pressure in the cooling system (its writen on the cap) the higher this pressure the higher the boiling point of the water.
May be u are boiling over at 100c instead of 120c, so may be its not really over heating its just boiling over.
But its not your problem to sort out take it back for them to fix.
Radiator caps - we have bought two different ones and it still overheats. We took it back to the garage who fitted the new radiator - they want $240 to reflush the block!! I'm thinking we should just get rid of it!! We had to buy another 4WD to go bush in.
Flush the block yourself just drop both hoses and take the thermostat housing of take the thermostat out and hose it out its only 2 bolts for the thermostat housing just get a new gasket lots cheaper than what there quoting to flush the block man thats a rip off
Take your time & make sure you purge all the air out of the head. You must have a air pocket & trust me have had the sme prob your having now when I did my motor swap. Darn thing would boil up FAST! Get the air out & have it back on the road.

Yep definatley check that belt, it goes all over the place (did mine today) and one mistake and you'll have the water pump spinning backwards and doing nothing at all, it would certainly cause it to verheat big time.
