GQ New Seats
GQ New Seats
What do people think about these seats? I don't want to spend heaps of $$ because they will just get covered in mud. I want something more comfortable and better fit than the stockies I have now. At $440 a pair they seem like a bargain.

at the shoulders the seats measure 550mm and 480mm at the bottoms thats from the widest part of the seat. if there from a shop see if they can get you the brackets to mount them. your suppost to have eng. cert for seats.

I got monza racing seats for my gq lwb and they were too narrow for my back but too wide to fit next to the pillar with the shoulder wings I had to lean seat in at the top and this made it uncomfortable to sit in, word of advice get some measurements first it can save you a lot of trouble.
I ended up getting some seats off a mazda mx6 from a wreckers really comfortable and with a lot more adjustability, and before anyone says it Yes I know it has to be engineered to be legal

Thanks for the tips on size. The seller is just down the road so hopefully I'll be able to test fit them.
I know of an engineer locally that specialises in fitting and engineering after market seats. I might even get him to fit harnesses too as I am sick of bouncing around on hard tracks.
I'll keep you posted.

seats look real nice and comfortable. i have commodore vs ss seats in my gq and are comfortable as. only trouble you'll have with those seats is if your truck is very high and you slide out of it to the ground, your ummmm TESTICLES sometimes will get squashed on exit and causes a bit of pain. have heard the same from other people. but for that price, i'd go for it.

Re: seats
yeah you can easily justify pintching ya junk a few times a day to have the comfort of the new seats to help releive the pain encountered - getting inRUFF GQ wrote:seats look real nice and comfortable. i have commodore vs ss seats in my gq and are comfortable as. only trouble you'll have with those seats is if your truck is very high and you slide out of it to the ground, your ummmm TESTICLES sometimes will get squashed on exit and causes a bit of pain. have heard the same from other people. but for that price, i'd go for it.

yeh, i'd be keen to find out about this too, i just bought a 6 seat gq with a bench passanger seat. has anyone converted it to a single seat?Rhysta wrote:When buying new seats, whats the go with the stock rail/slider thingos?
Ive got a GQ Ute its a bench seat and im not fan of the seats..
Do new seats come with new rails/slider to be bolted to the floor, as atm the rails are sitting right in the centre to accomomdate for the bench seat?
Be careful with the height of the base (eg how much foam), making sure theres room for your legs. I had this issue with some cheap import seats in my rodeo yrs back.. the seats fitted well, looked horn, but there was only 1/2 the room of the OEM bench.
try a wrecker for 91 vintage Maxima Seats, mine are fuckin VERY VERY comfortable.. also adjustable etc etc.

nearly all aftermarket seats you use your OEM seat mounts, and just buy an adjuster plate. Paratus, Recaro, adn SAAS are like this.
YMMV
Sparky has some cheapies in his GU ute. But he brought seat base (rails etc) from ARB. Dont know how much he paid. But they bolted straight in. He even put a spacer in to lift the saet up slightly as he is bloody short.bogged wrote:napsta wrote:yeh, i'd be keen to find out about this too, i just bought a 6 seat gq with a bench passanger seat. has anyone converted it to a single seat?Rhysta wrote:When buying new seats, whats the go with the stock rail/slider thingos?

One other thing to think of with aftermarket seats. Most of them dont sit square behind the steering wheel anymore. They are slightly offset to the door.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Just wondering what's wrong with the stock seats... mine are not too bad, starting to be a bit saggy on the outside parts from people getting in and out, so my plan is to peel off the upholstery and repair the foam (ie build it back up with thin layers of strong foam) and hopefully end up with seats like new again.
Is there anything wrong with yours besides the foam being a bit fatigued?

This is not legal advice.
Mine too, driving up Strickland Spur the other day I was bouncing off the metal frame. I also like the idea of being held in by a harness so you don't move around.napsta wrote:mine has collapsed in the middle. people also look for more support
