Deisel and water jerry can storage???

Hi all,
Just got back from a trip and was wondering the best ways to store jerry cans that had deisel in them and others that had water in them.

Sorry, not specific enough. Store them at home, is there something they should be rinsed out with?

Make sure the water ones are dry, or leave them without lids on so they dont grow mould... Could wash with normal washing liquid if you wanted to, rinse really well and leave to dry...


Diesel - metal or plastic? I have a plastic jerry, and just left it with bit of diesel and some injector cleaner/algae killer in it... prob do the same for a metal if u wish...

Be carefull leaving them full in hot areas as they could expand and leak/split

they are the 'plastic' ones, never thought about adding the injector cleaner/algae killer.

Diesel has a habit of growing algae if left on standing for a while (im sure someone else has a more scientific explanation)... something like Chemtech Diesel pwer (not a plug, just what i use) has an algacide in it, and can be used for diesel storage...



Make sure you have their clearly marked aswell.... I think Industry Standard sorta deal blue - water, yellow - diesel... get yourself a White Paint pen and write DIESEL ONLY, diesel water not taste good neither does water in diesel engine...
