How hard is it to rip out the old carpet in a rocky, and stick new one in? Can you just use normal 'house carpet'? Has anyone done it and if so how much time should i set aside to do it? And did you/should I remove the seats?
Was vacuming today and the carpet is half falling off and looking underneath theres heaps of dirt and looks like rust starting to form, any hints and tips on how to tidy this up aswell would be greatly appreaciated.
The current underlay looks as if its rotting which I think is adding to the nasty, muddy, stagnant water smell of the car
And what do you put underneath the carpet, does it have a special name or is it just underlay? Anything I can treat the floor body with to stop rust forming?

You would be better off using "marine carpet" as opposed to house carpet.
As far as the underlay is concerned, you can buy "special" bitumen based underfelt, which is noice and heat absorbant. This costs a little more than standard underfelt, but is worth it (also weighs about 20 times more).
Before replacing the carpet in my 7, I treated the floor with NOXUDAL - a light tar based spray. This is good for avoiding rust, and again, quitening the in cabin noise. I would only apply this to a VERY clean floor though.
Maybe you could ditch the carpet idea all together, and just spray the inside with tar? Would definately make cleaning your car easier!!

what about a coat or 2 of that rino tuff bedliner? i plan to do this to my roza when i get the funds. no more carpet and no more interior rust(or preventive rust.)

It can be a DIY Job, if you are prepared to rip all the interior out. Alternatively a audio place can do it for you.
Road noise is eliminated quite a bit, and on top of that your stereo will sound better as well!

yeah, i got no probs about ripping the crap out , but can i get this tar from supercheap? or repco? and do i need like a pump pack thingy to spray it or it comes in a can? Does it take long to dry? - that'd be the only thing stopping me, as i need my car for workd, so could go without for maybe one day max
Years ago I did a soundproofing / carpet renew job in my old Ford Escort mk2.
Basically I took out the seats, carpet, rotten underfelt and crud. Next I had to fibreglass over a big hole, clean up and brush painted underseal
bitumen everywhere. I stuck new soundproof felt to the wet tar and cut out new carpet from some cheap grey office type stuff using the original torn crap as a template.
Once all back together I was amazed I could barely hear the engine and tyre noise! But the sickening tar smell lasted for weeks.
Nightmare of a job all told, took 2 weekends but was worth it.
Car got smacked and written off about 3 months later. Bummer.
