Exausting Options
So what have you guys found to be an efective exaust system on a 3.9lt petrol? Want to upgrade in the near future to let the new motor breathe!
Single pipe or Duels?
Brand of Extractors?
What gives a good note?
Any experience bad or good would love to hear em
cheers

Hmm i like the idea of just a single high flow/ turbo style muffler cos im not worried about loudness really as it will soon be a weekend truck. Just want it to sound farken awesome!Loanrangie wrote:Steve, get some manifolds and the y piece from an efi rangie, way cheaper than extractors and just as good, then a 2.5" pipe with free flow muffler and a hotdog in the rear - horn !
If you want a small block sound get a Flowmaster baffled muffler from Barnes Performance . I think mine is a 42453 2.25 offset in/offset out for $235. fits almost exactly where the standard big 92 muffler fitted.
Its the only muffler I have ever heard gives that US V8 sound on a Rangie. I luuurve the burble on mine and it does not drone on the Highway.
Mine was a little loud for the wife so insted of a small straight through resonator I added a dogleg resonator.

For the RR V8 a single is better...and cheaper.Marty1 wrote:You can never beat the sound of a twin system, but theres twice as much

I priced a genie extractor and 2.5" mandrel bent with high flow muffler @ $900 fitted.
I had the same price for Lukey.
Thought they were pretty good prices.

G`day Steve ,
You may already be aware that 3.9s use a different crossmember and the exhaust runs beneath it unlike the 3.5s that run above . So 3.9 extractors hang a bit lower .
Same thing with EFI manifolds 3.9 and 3.5 use different Y pieces .
If your doing it yourself it could cause fitting problems , if your paying to get it done won`t matter .
Like the sound of twin , our 85 with a 4.0 has extractors 3.9 crossmember stainless mufflers single 2 1/2" pipe i think don`t remember .
All the best , peter .
