Best 32 Inch Tyre for Cape/ Med.-Hard Touring

Hi all. I've done several searches, but reaped no rewards yet.

We're heading to Cape York next year, and i'm setting up the old MK for the whole touring/weekender setup. I'm going to be buying six 32 inch tyres (with 15x8 King rims) leading up to the trip up north, but i've got no idea what tyres i want.

Basically, i don't want BF mud terrains (old pattern, noisy, average handling), and i dont road or all-terrain type tyres. I need something with a bit of bight cause i do actually use it off road, something fairly quiet, and something that'll last. I dont abuse my cars (wheelies, hand-brakies, line lockers etc.), so no doubt they'll last me a while whatever i get.

I'd like Claws, but last-time i checked, they didn't make them in 32's.

So any suggestions would be really great, also some rough prices would help too!!!

what about pro comp xterran iv been running these tyres for a while now and thm being a directional tyre makes them not noisy on the road and when i let them down for the bush they grip ok mind you im running 37/ 13.5 r 16 if not have a look at TRAIL TRACK & OUTBACK in furntree gully
im going up the top late next year to can't wait

Four of us whent up this year. Threeo n MTR and me on BFG, the MTR's whent real well. Took six more mls off my rear BF'S but that could have been me playing with my new turbo.

are you looking at carrying 1 or 2 spares?

if only carrying 1 you won't want directional tyres...

I have a set of 33" claws and are smaller than the 33" BFG muds (had them), try a set and see if they fit.

Because of the claws tractor type pattern they tend to slew a little.

MTR's are a good touring tyre excellent in medium/high speed dirt roads - perfect for touring.

Go the Goodyear wrangler MTR
Best all round tyre good on and off the road.
Can get a bit noisy when they wear a bit but thats what the volume on the stereo is for

I just got back from 5 weeks on the Cape, and my STTs (the new ones) performed faultlessly. Only carried one spare, and didn't need it - not even a slow leak.

In the highway they're not too noisy (but I've probably got better sound insulation than an MK) and I never had traction problems anywhere.

I've previously had MT/Rs in the same size, and had a similar experience with them. The only trouble with the MT/Rs was getting them to balance.

I think either tyre would suit you.

I think it was Big Red who found the Maxxis Bighorn or something... 5 ply tread and 4 ply wall.

Maybe something to think about...

Yeah, not too sure about the Maxxis ones. I don't think they've quite got the support of the other brands.

I'm going to have two spares, but i'd preffer to have non-directional tyres. I've heard nothing but good stories on the Goodyear Wranglers, but i did read some people on hear had had 2-3 bad runs with the coopers.

I definately only want 32's. 34's fit with ease, but 32 matches my gearing, gives heaps of room for travel, goes hard - but cruises nice too.

I'm thinking Coopers or the Goodyears...... whats the story on prices for these suckers??

If 34" fit with ease.. why not step up to a 33".. much more common.. even if your gearing is out a touch
