i can't get a definative answer, one person says SOA is the way to go and others tell me to steer clear, i wanna get some lift into my MQ LWB, need some advice from people who actually know what they are talking about.

yes, BUT! you have to do it properly, the whole hog, cut & rotate knuckle's, beable to weld cast steel, know how to setup steering geometry etc etc... its not a 2 hr job
I have also heard both side some say its great, ie V8 patrol , screwy , Dr frankenstein. Then my neighbour spoke to a bloke in wangaratta last week & he didn't like it, but did he do it properly ????
So you can go ahead & do one which i am also going to do but you need to be commited & do it properly
Or you can do a dodgy job & kill yourself & other's too
Also, on an Mk with no lift you can fit 35's see here ...

So a 2" spring lift & 2" bodylift you can quite happily run 35's & 36's so a spring over is not required, but you will get better ride & better flex out of doing a springover although road handling will be changed due to softer ride but its all on how you set it up

SOA's arent for everybody......... depending on what your "expectations" are as far as "lift" goes then I think you'd better let us know exactly HOW MUCH LIFT you REALLY NEED !wazdog wrote: I wanna get some lift into my MQ LWB
An SOA can gain up to 10" instantly !...... if you think thats not much then think of having 20+ inches between the chassis rails and the ground, that will put your seat height about waist height .... thats one big step in and out of the rig.
SOA's look totally out of place if you intend to maintain the smaller size tyres such as 33's or smaller....... plan on forking out a grand + for a set of 35's / 36's
Can your current motor / gearbox push the larger rubber ? ...... this is one of the main reasons most ( not all ) guys convert to V8s and 5 speed boxes..... the 1st gear in a 5 spd is lower than a 4 spd box and the luxuary of a 5th overdrive offers "some ecconomy" to the V8's
It wont drive anything like it does now either
With a much higher centre of gravity, body roll will probably scare the living daylights out of you at the very first roundabout you tackle.... it takes a few days of driving to get used to the differance !
Forget towing unless you plan to make a 300mm lowered towbar !
What sorta shape are your spring leaf paks in ????
Old shagged out paks are not the way to go if doing an SOA !
For those of us that have done them we wouldnt have them any other way but we did them for the right reasons and bore the associated costs involved in setting them up, as Andrew said they are definatly NOT a 2hour fit me up kit !
They take time to make / fit / setup correctly / and fine tune........ every patrol I have done is differant to the last in its little subtle differances be it driveline vibrations to steering shudders. All most ppl NEED is a 2" lift ( read new springs ) and 2" spacer blocks to lift the body.
So what do you really NEED
and what do you want to run under it and in it

Mate as Kingy said, SOA is something to really think carefully about.....
You really need to set up the SOA to suit your needs....
Kingy has stiff springs and towing packs etc and lift with 35s for a cross between touring, mud driving and road.....His drives nicely on road...
Mine however, is very much offroad only, its been setup to Flex very well and work on large rock driving, its not great on the road, though its setup for much larger tyres than kingys.....
Do u intend on touring? mud driving? rocks?
wat sort of hieght...? either way, if u SOA, i recomend NO other lift wat so ever apart from soa, so if u have body lift etc.... remove it....
and u can run 35s confortably....
look in the members and My rig, kingys rig, and dr frankenstines rig, mines offroad, kingys is half half, and petes is a little more offroad than kingys but still confy on road.....
