cheapest place to get them is rocket industries in melbourne, 69.95 each. Good for quick easy hill starts but i dont believe they will hold the car for prolonged periods. Also good on the front for tight turning.

Hey Nick,

Do you mean Rocket Industries in Sydney? Or perhaps Rocket Auto in Melbourne?

I'm somewhat keen to investigate these line lockers - would be a great way to create a "third foot" for steep hill starts :) .

thanks mate,

Ben,
another good setup, is to run an inching brake.
button on the steering wheel activates the directional control valve which diverts a small amount of power steer fluid to hydraulic hand brake. then when inching your way up the soup bowl just use throttle and clutch and press the button to engage the brakes.
uses pretty much the same components, except for a 4/3 diverter valve instead of a 3/2 dead head diverter valve, and a basic disk brake setup on the t/case (similar to BJ's).

Would this be similar to running a disc brake / handbrake instead of the drum brake on the back of the transfer on the earlier sierras?

cheers

You push your foot on the brake, then hit the line lock switch... a solenoid blocks the brake line off so the pressure stays even when you lift your foot... therefore the brakes stay on.

Very common in drag racing applications so you can spin up the rear and keep the front locked.

is there any line locks that work the opposite way, ie you switch them on to stop the fluid going to the rear wheels, so you still have control over the brake pressure to the fronts?

I think you can put the line lock in the brake line wherever you like... so yes, you could isolate the front or rear... or both, or a line lock on each wheel if you really want to!

Or you can set up to have an over-ride switch that locks all 4 wheels, and a botton on your shifter or steering wheel that controls the front or rear.

Possibilities are endlessly complicated...

I beleive most of the "linelock" kits have a blead off system in them and will not hold the brake for a long period of time. Also these are generaly electronicaly controlled so i wouldnt like to rely on firstly how long your flexable lines and brake seals will last and secondly how good your wiring is. Mechanical Hand brakes get my vote but even these can fail.

line locks aren't designed to take the role of a hand brake. They have limited holding abilities and shouldn't be relied on to hold a vehicle on say a steep hill. (they will tend to creep) But as a temp thing like when you want to restart on a steep hill set the line lock get the revs right drop the clutch as you flick the button on your dash or wheel or wherever and away you go, no more three footing it.

I like the idea of being able to pick front, rear or all wheel braking

This item exists and most of the Outerlimits Crew run this set up on our rigs. It also incorperates Electronic Traction Control. But its not yet available to the general public but should be very soon.
