Wiring 3 spotties, with a 2 spotties loom?

Post by beretta »

Hi there,

I've got three spotties to go on, thing is I have a good loom already there that is set up for two lights. Can I just run another wire to the third light from the terminals on the other two sets of wires or have I got to completely change the wiring set up?

Hope that makes sense?
If I don't get a reply I'll know it does'nt!!! :D
thanks for oyur help!

Yea just tap the wire straight onto the relay with the other lights, make sure the thickness of the main positive wire will be able to handle the extra current draw of maybe 5 amps. And while you're at it you might need a heavier fuse.
On my car and ute i run 2 hella 100w driving lights. both of these light use a 15amp fuse respectively. So i suppose a 20A fuse in your case.

Be carefull... 3 spotties is technically illegal, you have to run them in pairs.

To work out current draw, current = total wattage/12

So, 3 x 100 watt spots = 25amps.

What sort of loom is it?

Probably better to make yourself a new loom rather than pulling the other one apart.

www.jaycar.com.au has everything youll need.
Cheers,
Dan.

Okay, thanks for the replies. What I am doing is legal, already checked.

Its an IPF loom, was hoping it could handle 3, maybe not?

Will check out Jaycar site, have got the catalogue at home!

Thanks for the help!
