Hi guys,

I have just taken delivery of a '90 model GQ Patrol Ti, Petrol Auto with only 193000 kms on it, paid $5250.

Is there any particular area that I need to look at, Ive check for rust in all the places that my MK has it and it gets a clean bill of health, I do need to change the drivers door hinges (where can I buy these) all the electrics seem to be fine though the drivers door window is really slow to come up sometimes it needs a helping hand.

Is there any benieft to installing a snorkel on it.

Any help or advice would more than be appreciated.

Hi, obviously installing a snorkel will make your life much more of a convenience going through water and they class it as a cold air intake.
hinges you can buy at most strores but try ebay. they range for around they fetch a good price most days... good luck with it and i hope its on gas...

use some graphite powder on the window seal it will help a tad..

Thanks for the tips, no gas on this rig as yet may well concider it at a later date but I hate the thought of loosing that 95 lt tank unless they can mount a gas tank underneath elsewhere, as I sure as hell ain't putting it inside like it is in my MK.

Whats a complete gas setup worth these days.

hi.. drive in drive out LPG setup would be around $2400... the only way around this is to buy a nissan with gas already on it unless you have budgetd for the LPG system it almost sounds like you paid too much for it..


it will work out.. there is plenty of second hand systems going aroung thses days so you might get out of it for much less otherwise just keep on fillen her up..

You could always run a couple of scuba style gas tanks under the car. May not have the same capicity all up as a replacement tank style. But will allow you to keep the std tank (or replace with a long range one - for long trips). This is what I would like to do to a GU next year. As they come with a 95lt mian and 30lt aux. So replace one of those with a longrange tank. and fit some small gas tanks under the car some where. Should make it cheap for everyday and still be able to do most bush trips.

had the same prpblem on my SWB, pull off the door trim then the protective plastic, Lubricate every part of the winder assembly with a grease they get all gummed up and stiff after a while.
As for economy dont think LPG is the be all, just replaced the cylinder head on mine yesterday, its been on gas for only 50,000kms and cracked down the centre, the valves cop a pounding too had to have all of them replaced . So not a cheap exersize, considering LPG conversion is about 2500bucks and new cylinder head (no labour) 2000bucks, in hind sight would prefer to pay for ULP for a couple of years. Just my opinion.

What do you all think about running it on 98 octane petrol instead of the standard ULP or Premium, I do relise that there is quite a differance in pricing, but will it run any better on the higher octane fuel.

hi, you might want to consider running your gas system with a flashlube drip system. this will help lubricate the upper cylinder.gas is a very hot yet dry burning fuel so you will need to add a little lube to help out
