calibrating speedos

Post by TeD2.5 »

Im in Sydney, have a '02 courier, Anyone know who/where/ how much to caliblate the speedo after fitting bigger tyres?
Tyres I am looking at will throw it out by about 8%
I can do the math but if the wife drives it I don't want her getting booked
maybe a stupid question but will it effect engine managment or anything else

Don't know where the speedo drive comes from in courier so climb under and have a look. In a hilux it comes from transfer case. There are places that can build a correction box that screws into ur transfer case and then your cable screws into that. There is one on GC called Richmond Tweed Instruments but ther should be a few closer to u than that.

MArks 4wd adapters do mechanical and electronic ones depending on how the speedo works.

If its mechanical, you'll have to get one of those as far as I'm aware, there's no other way around it.

If its electronic and you or a mate have a few clues on electronics, get a DIY kit from Jaycar for $40 and you're set

I had mine tested by VDO in Carrington Rd Revesby. They charged $60 including letter to get engineered, it needs to be within 4%,they seem like nice guys I don't think they would charge much just for a test it's only a two minute job.
There is another place at Lidcombe if you check the yellow pages

There's a place in Croydon, NSW that does them. I'll see if I can still find his details.
