Another exhaust upgrade query....

Post by ACH »

Hi All,

It's fairly obvious that larger (2.5" or 3") exhaust system upgrades for ZD30, TD42T and TD42TDi Patrols are becoming (or are!!) more and more popular.

Over here, West of Everywhere, there's not too many who supply/fabricate complete systems. There's a branch of MTQ in Perth but generally they only provide the dump pipe and farm off the rest of the exhaust fab to local mobs. For a number of reasons I don't like that idea. I'm after a complete DIY "bolt up" system from back of turbo.

Another player has appeared on the scene......Manta Exhausts, and they advertise locally. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this mob? Are they Eastern States based and are they any good??

Should I bite the bullet and pay freight for a Beaudesert Exhausts system? What other options (suppliers) are there for a 3" system for my TD42T??
Cheers
Andy

I purchased my system over the phone from MQT, cast dump pipe, and complete 3" mandrel bend bolt on system with one muffler included. There are other set ups available (look in the bible) but I am very happy with my DIY kit all for about $600 bucks.

OK well as it turns out, a Perth-based 4WD accessory shop has just taken up distribution of the Beaudesert Exhausts system - I was fortunate enough to see a complete system at the recent 4WD Show in Perth.

Anyway, they can provide me with a 3" complete (inc. dump pipe) system for less than I could ship it from Qld myself........and without the hassles of organising freight etc.!!!!!!

So the order's in, & it should be on the wagon in about 2 weeks!!

I can say you will be very happy with the system from Beaudesert Exhaust Centre. Bothe BIG RED and I run one of their systems and I can't recommend them enough for quality, performance and service. Both Brian and Dan really know their stuff. Mention Linc (that's me) sent you and you should get a better than normal price. ;)

why the hell do you need a Beaudesert exhaust ?

Just get a 3" dump pipe go to your local decent exhasust place and ask for a:

3" mandrel bent exhaust, with db flexi pipe (this stops the exhuast cracking off the mounts). Then ask the exhuast guy to put flanges in two spots have one section to the transfer case and then put in another section just around the cross member.

So then you should have a 3 part exhaust system, all the exhaust does is allow the turbo to breathe more gives stuff all performance however when you turn up the boost and fuel thats where added benefit of the 3" ehaust comes into hand.

If you need a contact in WA contact Cass Jones he does comp trucks and high performance turbo diesel mods and he'll agree to what i'am saying.

Otherwise shop around with what i said the most expensive part except for the the dump pipe will be the flexi joint so make sure its a db not a single

Morkz, hear what yer saying, but I've been down the road of just rolling up to a place for fab work and at the end of the day have been less than satisfied.

Why Beaudesrts? Because they 've been doing 3" fab for quite some time and have got it right!! I fitted mine yesterday without any probs - nuts, bolts, gaskets etc. all supplied with the pipe work incl. dump pipe and dbl flex joint. All went together without any thumping or bashing.

So am I happy? Yes.......obviously time will tell the actual extent of any improvement but "seat of the pants" indicates a tad more responsiveness.
Cheers

If i had my way again i would definately go with Beaudesert. I went to my local true fit, who promised to do a full mandrel 3" and guess what. I ended up with a few press bends and the welds are not top quality.

I have seen Beaudeserts quality, and in future i will always go with them. Unless another mob offers similar quality and price. My system looks home made in comparison and i reckon the price is good for a Beaudesrt system.

zd30 exhaust

On a recent trip to perth I purchased a 2 1/2 '' mandrel bent system for the gu,Also bought a 2 1/2'' highflow cat convertor and 2 mandrel bends to fabricate the dump pipe.

Original pipe at back of turbo was 1 7/8'', now 2 1/2''.

First trip out noticed no more turbo lag, spools up quicker,no more noisy than standard system.

Returned 9.8L per 100k towing 1 ton on trailer.Economy didn't change from this over the 1800 k trip to get home.

Total price for system $680.

Just for anyone interested in Brisbane. Men At Work exhausts in capalaba do a 3 inch dump pipe and press bent system fully fitted for $375. I got mine done a couple of weeks back and it made a big difference to performance. So for someone looking for something a bit cheaper it's not too bad. After all there not race cars.
