Seriously looking into buying a TJ but the main thing that annoys me is the standard wheel size.
I can't beleive they are only a 28" tyre from the factory...
....which legally means you can only fit a 29" (30" if you want to stretch the law).
Such a disapointment that they don't even come with 31" from the factory.
Do most people just fit bigger tyres anyway?
I am trying to keep the rig legal for insurance reasons.

when i was looking at buying a my wrangler recently, Peter Warren Jeep had a brand new red sports with a 2' OME lift and 31' BFG All Terrains, now for them to be able to sell it, it has to be 100% road legal I aksed the salesman this and he said that they wouldn't have put togther the package if it wasn't legal, I didn't end up buying it they wanted $37,000 for it which was way too much

From doing some more research, apparantly the dealer will actually warrent 31" but no bigger.

31's is a lot better then 28's - and I would probably even be happy just running 31's until I can afford to do the full suspension/gearing modification.
Also, I have since read that you can apparantly fit 31's but they may rub a tiny bit at full articulation on a stock TJ.
That is a lot better then my previous thoughts; and I am now back to wanting a wrangler again :o)

31's with stock suspension shouldn't rub, but you may need to adjust the steering stops marginally. I run my TJ with Old Man Emu lift, 31;'s and swaybar disconnects, and although I'd love 32 or 33, it does everything I want it to do, and to take the next step you need body lift, offset rims, diff ratios and SYE, so it is a big step.

I think it was around the $1100 mark, (springs, shockers, transfer case spacers, bump stop extension etc) and easy to fit. I went with slightly heavier springs in the rear (I tow a camper trailer sometimes) it raised the rear almost 3 inches, and the front just over 2 inches.
Immediate difference in ride quality on and off road, and if you also invest in front swaybar disconnects, the articulation is fantastic!
