gas compliance plate ?

Post by F'n_Rover »

ok a bit of a theoreticale question... :D

according to a mechanic mate of mine, prior to the late eighties lpg installs wern't compliance plated. you just went to a fitter and had it put in.... This would explain why my other mates old car has no install plate ??

Well I have heard different stories, some installs I have seen have plates others just have certificates - not sure why that is maybe the different laws in each state.

I know a mate has just had one done and has neither

The new theory is that any pre 94 install will have the tank expired. To test the tank most places are insisting on compliance plate also.

So by that theory every car SHOULD be complianced... but in reality it does not always work that way.

Not bad, but most of the testing places I have enquired at are just interested in the tank, they are happy for me to drop it off and pick it up - hence no check - I guess if we were "normal" consumers we would take our car to an installer to have the tank checked not bypass that and just drop it offf at the tester ourselves

hmmm..
good news. my mate was thinking he had an illegle install, but as the car is a 1978 model, it is all above board. sweet. he has replaced the gas lines / converter / wiring and control box. all he needs to do now is take the tank out and get it retested. all 100% above board. :D

the rules are you dont need to get it complieance prior to 94 but the tank has to be in date. if tank or lines are replaced probably convetor and mixter to then you need to get the new items complienced just finshed this disccusion at roady school

Add to Ruggers comment......

In Vic you are NOT permitted to perform any type of service to the "liquid" side of an LPG system...... this includes tank, fill line, supply line and converter unless you are qualified LPG fitter..... any service to the liquid side of an LPG system MUST BE carried out on a licenced premisis and by a licenced fitter only.

You can however "play" as much as you like on the "vapour" side of the system........ ( from the converter onwards )

Thats the LAW .......................... but who cares :finger:
