MQ/MK info direct from my 1986 parts book....

Post by RMP&O »

Ok well I said before I would post some info on diff ratios and such from my recently accuired parts book. If I wasn't to lazy to scan this stuff I would just post it that way but I am to lazy on a Sunday. So here it is as listed in the parts book....sorry it won't be real organized.

Models:
-K160 = SWB hardtop
-J160 = high roof SWB hardtop
-UG160 = Ute or pickup
-WG160 = wagon LWB
-CG160 = high roof LWB wagon
-VG160 = LWB van

And there is a few more that are just variations of the ones I listed.

Wheelbase: 2350mm or 92.5" & 2970mm or 116.9"
SD33: 24v up to Aug 83 then both 24v and 12v
SD33T (turbo): not offered until Aug 1983
Tranny: F4W81A the 4spd up to June 85 or later
Tranny: FS5W81A the 5spd only available from Aug 83-onward
Tranny: Automatic 3N71B 3spd available only from Aug 83 onward

Colors available up to july 85:
-white
-yellow
-dark blue
-red
-green
-blue
-black
-silver metallic
-brownish gray metasllic

Interior: only blue and brown

chassis numbers starting in Nov 1979 to Dec 1985:
600079 is the first
870414 is last
*the parts book lists all chassis numbers from 11-79 to 12-85 and what model they apply to. basically truck identification by chassis numbers.

More tranny info, ratios:

-4spd up to June 80
1st: 3.52
2nd: 2.16
3rd: 1.45
4th: 1.00
rev: 4.18

-4spd from july 80 to july 83
1st: 3.519
2nd: 2.157
3rd: 1.449
4th: 1.000
rev: 4.180

-4spd from aug 83 to june 85
1st: 3.897
2nd: 2.370
3rd: 1.440
4th: 1.000
rev: 4.627
&
1st: 4.222
2nd: 2.370
3rd: 1.440
4th: 1.000
rev: 4.622

-5spd from aug 83 to june 85
1st: 3.897
2nd: 2.370
3rd: 1.440
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.825
rev: 4.267

-5spd from july 85-onward has both above ratio and also this one
1st: 4.222
2nd: 2.370
3rd: 1.440
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.825
rev: 4.622

-3spd auto from aug 83 to june 85
1st: 2.458
2nd: 1.458
3rd: 1.000
rev: 2.182

Transfer case info (ratios/models)

-T130A up to june 1985
high: 1.000
low: 2.220

-T100L up to july 85
high: 1.000
low: 2.074

DIFF info (ratios, modles and such) Depending on how your patrol is outfitted motor, tranny and model determinds your ratios. I assume it is a C200 in front for all years but I dunno. And it doesn't show ratios for the C200 that would match ALL the H233's or H260's. A little bit confusing :roll:

-C200 front diff

open diff that appears to only be fitted up to July 83, not sure if H233 front came after that as the parts book doesn't show a front H233 or a C200 after july 83. In fact it shows nothing for front after july 83!

ratios:
-3.360
-3.364
-4.375
-4.111

C200 rear diff

open and also a LSD option and the C200 rear is also only shown up to July 83

Ratios:
-3.360
-3.364
-4.375
-4.111

H233B rear diff

open and LSD option. Diff came from found in all years

Ratios:
-4.110 up to june 1980
-3.9000 from aug 83 to june 85
-4.375
-4.875
-4.625

H260 rear heavy duty diff

open and LSD available. Appears to only be found in Patrols from Aug 83 onward.

Ratios:
-4.111
-4.375
-4.875
-4.625

Front axle is always a rigid unit but the rear went to a full floater in July 85. Disc and drum brakes found on the front in all years, rears were always drums.

There is a lot of interesting things shown in the parts book. These being options and so forth, some are...

-power steering
-front & rear PTO's, rear only on firetrucks
-front & rear skid plates
-all outside mirror types
-all air cleaner types
-all tranny cover types, ie PTO
-rear jump seats on high roofs
-rear heater option
-high roof sunroofs, 3 types
-rear barn doors on high roofs both SWB and LWB plus on van
-factory mud flaps and fender flare types
-optional rear sliding window on Ute/pickups
-optional rear side sliding windows on wagon/van
-two types of front door windows
-interior types
-factory roll bar option, looks weak! :lol:
-steel hard top option
-4 rear bumper types
-ALL seat types including factory suspension seats & heated seats!
-All the retro side graphics
-factory canvas and tarpaulin
-factory canvas for Utes
-2 types of rear tire carriers, one with gas can holder. Also factory tire cover
-ALL emblems and labeling including the 50th anv badge, both Nissan and Datsun

So any ways, this probily good info for the bible, eh!? The parts book cost me a lot but is well worth it for the amount of info. I can identify any model of MQ/Mk now up to 12/85 anywhere in the world. Well, at least in RHD as it is a RHD parts book. If you post your model as shown on your vin tag with year I can tell you exactly how your truck was outfitted from Nissan, ie motor, tranny, diffs and ratios. If you just give me chassis number I can tell you the year of the Patrol to the month! Kinda cool.... :cool:

URG160782993 & URG160GFUBJIP

U = pickup/Ute
R = SD33 motor
G = LWB
160 = model

after this goes like this...
G = heavy duty
F = 5spd trany
U = export
B = 3rd seat in line on High roof
J= high roof hardtop
I = I dunno
P = I dunno

chassis # of 782993 = some time after 1/86 for production. My parts book only goes up to 6/85 for Ute and ends in 747227 for last chassis number

Hi, I'm a kind of new, both at this forum and with a Nissan.
I have a 1989 KR160 with a Chassis nummbered JN10KR160U0894152.
The Type is KRL160FPQ.
I assume this is an MQ series - can someone help clarify what exactly I own?
Thanks

I know that the 160 is the MQ and the 161 is the MK, so you have the MQ (should have round headlights aswell)

this according to Nissan NZ.

Thanks NZ4x4,
It looks just like the picture you have attached but has square headlights and also has power steering and AC as standard.
The "Bible" I noticed in this forum does not list serial numbers as far as this one though as this one was 1989.

Thanks but how do I explain that the machine i own seems closest to an MQ (from all accounts) and, from Gregory's No 500 (MQ Series Diesel 1980-97) service and repai Manual? This car was bought in Germany in 1989.
Still a bit confused!

the 160 and 161 are almost identical as far as im aware. the 160 is the mq and the 161 is the MK. mk has square headlights, MQ has rounnd ones. also i think the MK was the one that came with the 5 speed and the turbo diesel (someone correct me if im wrong), they basicly the same truck.

post a pic up and some of the more experianced guys will be able to help you.

We have crossover issues here too in Uk . Your model bought in Germany most likely will have been built by Santana in Spain. This company had liasons at first with Landrover then Nissan and Suzuki. They did engineer a lot of parts for the Landrover and have Santana badged models near identical to Rover. I think they had longer runs on the MQ/MK series hence the confusion on crossover times. Don`t know if they still build for Suzuki but they have a nice big truck very similar to a 110 Rover. Leaf sprung with an Italian Iveco DI diesel. It has body mountings similar to Gq. I think they do Military orders with this model.

Thanks. Though bought in Germany, believe, from the VIN (JN10KR160U0894152) that the vehicle was probably manufactured in Japan and not Spain.
There is a picture of a white truck posted about five frames earlier in this Post.
Just to summarize:
Built 1989
Engine SD33 (normally aspirated)
Square headlights
Leaf springs front and rear
Power steering and aircon -standard
The truck was originally a left-hand-drive and was converted in 2004 to right-handdrive.
Most of the stuff written in the MQ Manual matches up even if it is an MK.

Screwy, How can it me an early MK? it was built in 1989. (o was it first registered in 89?)

If you are wanting to buy parts, just order parts for a 160 Nissan Patrol.
To me the truck sounds like a MK but the chassis number is saying that it is a 160 which i thought was a MQ. So im not sure.

Registered in Hamburg in Feb 1989. Could well have been built in Japan for the European market in 1988.
Agree with your parts advice - the 160/MQ seems to make sense to me.

sorry i thought i read somewhere it was 1983....

IF its 1989.....

its probably the very last of the production MKs just before they go to GQ.... GQ started in 1988... maybe they had a few odd stragglers of the late MK model sitting around....

its definatly and MK as its leave sprung and because of the body shape....
Not GQ.

if it says 160.... maybe its a combo of left overs they had in the workshop... an MQ chassis with MK body and other bits as thats wat they had to clean up the shop.... got enough to get it together..... that would explain y its a later model MK....

just a thought

Thanks folks,
So the real question is, would I need to look at a 160 parts book or a 161 book OR, are they the same or similar?
Am looking for some body parts!

HI, not body panels. Was looking for the side window sashes. Believe they shd come with an inner, outer sealing and a frame. I do not need the glass.
The frame is starting to rust and is kind of getting messy!
