what clutch for GTI conversion in sierra...

At the moment I have the standard 1.3 and 5 speed in my sierra, the clutch was starting to die before the buildup so it thought I'd better fix it before I drive it again. I will be running this engine for a little while longer but I wanna start gathering all the bits ready for my GTI conversion which will use the original sierra 5 speed.

So my question is, if I change the clutch now will it work with the GTI engine in too?

I just don't wanna waste money and have to change it twice.

from what i gather you have two options.

-use the sierra flywheel in the gti motor, hence you can keep the clutch

-use the gti clutch in the sierra gearbox so it can mate with the gti fly.

I'm going the first option, a lot easier... just shop around for a 'heavy duty' clutch for the sierra

The only way to do it was use the sierra fly wheel and clutch. Make sure you get the flywheel machined though! I used that with a heavy duty clutch and it was fine until i installed the turbo. LAsted for about 3 comps and then fried it.

Talk to Mark (mud4b) at Suziworx. He gets heavy duty ones that are pretty good!

Ok, so by the sounds of it I'll be getting myself a sierra clutch

Zuker1500, what part has to be machined on the flywheel? And did you do this yourself?

Take your flywheel down to penrith brake and clutch no you cant do it yourself i think its about $40-50 dollars

Standard cluch should be enough thats all i run you can get them from suzysport in sevenhills for 175 for the full kit


ps stop worrying about the engine and get this show on the road

what you can do is mix and match, Carters clutch up here in maitland was able to mix me up clutch from standard right upto a brass button if i wanted... but opted for a tweaked standard does the job heaps well... no slippage.
