A huge thanks to Sam and his team of trusty troops that put together another fantastic event. (The best i have been to.)
A huge to Lil rich for designing some of the best courses i have seen and wheeled on...I truley beleave this has raised the bar for the future comps..
I must say it was a honour to see the teams come all the way from the US to wheel with us,Especially Dustin & Becca Webster...You guys ROCK....
I learnt so much from watching the different ways you guys tackled each course.
I must also give a huge thanks to my Spotter James, Mate without you there,I would have been totally lost....
& to my dad, thanks for all support and help in rebuilding the buggy and pit crewing on the weekend...
Dustin
Mate thankyou very much for everything you have said,It really means alot coming from the #1 team in Rock Crawling...
Already have plans underway for a totally revised buggy for next year...
Hopefully if all go's well, I hope to get over to the US sometime next year,Even if it is only to spectate.....
Regards
Jamie
Becca and Dustin are true ambasidors for the sport. What great people! I feel very fortunate to have been able to spend so much time talking with the Websters and being "coached" by the best in the business. Thanks guys for your generous time and advice.
Jamie, thanks for the opportunity to spot for you. I haven't had much in the way of comp experience ( with the big trucks anyway ) and thanks for having the faith in me to help you out! I look forward to developing our team abilities and to keeping the big boys honest.
Thanks to Greg and BeeBee for their assistance and advice. Greg, your spotting advice was awesome and I learned a heap from you. It is easy to see why you guys perform so consistently.
The duplex communication system was awesome! Really, if you are serious about being competitive, get some good radio gear. Good communications take a lot of the stress out and make it that much easier.
I am stoked that we were able to crawl all of those courses, seldom hitting over 3 grand on the taco. The auto has made such a difference to the way the buggy crawls. We started all and finished all but 3 of the courses. We suffered one breakage, one unfortunate roll and were highcentred once... I know the buggy was capable of finishing all courses. Something for us to work on.
THANKS TO THE SPECTATORS FOR CHEERING US ON! IT REALLY GIVES US A BUZZ TO HEAR YOU ROAR WHEN WE PULL OFF SOME BS LINE OR MISS A CONE!
The results talk for themselves... and I reckon 5th place outright is pretty damn good amongst such an awesome field!
P.S. if anyone has any good photos of our buggy, please email them to jskennedy@bmcl.com.au (especially of the rollover on A5 and the seedy side angle on B1)
Cheers, JK

ok i was judging on course a1 and the reason why we disqualified athol was he had passed through the next gate which in the rules it states
we as judges have the right but not the responsibility to advise spotters and drivers of unsafe acts. now I sure as shit wasn't about to walk in front of pete when he was going at full noise, and tell tazz to think about where he was standing.
all of us judges are volunteers and are still learning
i didn't see you volunteer, but you are happy to bitch about how this and should have been done.
perhaps you should give it a go and you would see it's not as easy as you think
Ok someone is a bit defensive... if athol truely did require disqualification, then why was the call reversed (at least i heard one of the judges call out to reverse the call).
i wasn't commenting on the judges in the instance of the spotter strap so back off, i was saying that i found the RULES silly, that taz wasn't allowed ACCORDING TO THE RULES to touch the buggy from behind (where he was relatively safe) but was allowed to hoist on a spotters strap from directly in front of it, while it was at full noise... my comment was on the rules... not the judging IN THAT INSTANCE.
but on the subject of the behind touch, can somone tell me what the difference was between (i think) jodies situation and antunecs... from what i was told jodies spotter pushed him over that bonus stage lip, but Taz was stopped.
You didn't see me volunteer, because volunteers don't report to you. i expressed interest in judging, BUT i know how shit it is when people pull out at the last minute (through organising surf comps) and i couldn't guarentee i would be there... in fact it wasn't until i was standing in adelaide airport at 6 am thursday that i knew for sure i was even going to make it to sydney. i figured Sam didn't need the hastle of a maybe. i have however given cheesy my full support for ozrock, for any job he requires hands for, and will be happy to volunteer at next years werock IF i can be sure i will turn up to forfil those duties, it's just that Vic is easier for me (due to family there) to guarentee i'll be there...
sorry if my comments were taken too heavily, i want to see this sport grow, and watching the yanks showed the potential. without feedback (both positive and negative) things stagnate. if nothing else, my comment about Athol will show compeditors where he went wrong, so that they know exactly HOW to bend the rules without breaking them. if i was bitching i'd just say "it was shit".... but that would be a lie.
so next time someone has a suggestion that could improve the events, i suggest they bite their tongues in fear of offending... and let everything run it's course... mate your not the only one that wants to see this take off, and i'm confident sam (and now the OZROCK boys as well) can lift the profile of the sport, and in time WE WILL KICK SOME YANkY ARSE
p.s. a couple of other ideas i had through the weekend Sam and the Haultech boys (now don't take this as bitching )
1. the slide show was agreat idea... i was wondering if it'd be worth expanding it (get the ORP guys in on it) and have snippets from different DVD's playing. i mean what better place to sell the ORP dvd's to the p!ssed guys who are amped on watching the days events... also gives a good gathering point for everyone.
2. hopefully as things start becoming more self sufficient, and resources get free'd up, perhaps you could run some sideshow type things like a "ride along" type thing... 5 or 10 bucks, and you get a lap of a stage (say a specially set up stage nearby) with someone driving the homeless or something... kinda like those "hot lap" type things they have at the supercars. just so eager punters could get a feel for what the drivers are going through... and perhaps thrill a few into building their own. i know it wouldn't interest the guys that go nuts offroad, but there were a few people at the last event that wouldn't have ever experienced anything like it
again just some ideas to throw around... hope i don't step on any toes or get kicked in the teeth for them
Spit my last breath
don't do this people, any feedback, positive or negative will always provoke a difference of opinion, but the people who matter read these comments and make their own opinion and it's all beneficial to our sport.bad_religion_au wrote: so next time someone has a suggestion that could improve the events, i suggest they bite their tongues in fear of offending...
So keep the feedback coming, after all its for you guys anyway.

But you sure did get some good shots
As for the judging comments...there are always going to be situations where something is missed or just plain stuffed up. That's life.
But that cannot take anything away from the awesome event on the weekend. I am still raving about how good it was and this is the fourth day in a row that I have worn my WE Rock t-shirt . I think that rock crawling is going to go a long, long way in our awesome country, I am glad to have been a part of it - even if it was only as a judge. That personal loan counter at the bank is looking mighty good though - Hello... Haultech Engineering?
There are indeed many ways to improve the event for the spectators. The drivers/navis/officials were looked after exceptionally well with the inclusion of Lil'Rich and the other Seppos. But I do think that as things progress, Sam will put the right people/systems in place to ensure that WE Rock Aus gets all of the publicity it needs.
Can't wait for 2006.
Now...where is Adrian's number........
Micka
Wow - looks like it was definitely the best rockcrawling event in OZ so far. Shame I was halfway around the world... They will only get better though
Congrats to Becca and Dustin, Tony, and everyone who made it happen. Comisserations to Adrian - hope everything goes better next year - you definitely deserve to head over to the US to compete.
I am amazed at all the new buggys that came out of the woodwork (maybe out of the bush is a better phrase?). Whose buggy was the weird shaped one with mog axles?
Any vids of the roc70y rotary buggy in action? And how did the rotary stack up against the V8's?
Great to see Sam's Salisbury/D60 axles in a rig - shame they didn't get to be tested. Comisserations to Tracey as well, since that was his rig wasn't it? Was it a ZF or chev/holden box that broke?

ZF however it was fully rebuilt and had never been used. I don't think its any reflection on how tuff those ZF's are. I have been thrasing mine for over a year now and it has never missed a beat. In saying that the ZF is coming out of the Dana 60 rig and its been replaced by a powerglide.ISUZUROVER wrote: Was it a ZF or chev/holden box that broke?
This was the best Comp i have done so far. The courses were great, the competitors were great and the officials were great. The Courses were Hard but drivable by most but they had even harder Bonus lines and multiple bonus lines on some courses that not many could drive. Everyone involved in this event would have to have learnt something from these American Teams. And i think there were some real friendships formed over the weekend. All of the American Teams are more than welcome back and i hope you do make it back again.
I also noticed some real competition in Australia. At least competition for my self. In my Class(Legends/Limited/Pro-Mod) i have not realy had much competition but i hope that the few that were in my Class continue in this class as i can see once/if Tim(Redzook) builds a Legends/Limited rig and Ally gets some more seat time im realy going to have to work a lot harder. I realy hope that people thinking of building a Buggy realy look hard at their choice because this class will be the class to compete in if you want to keep it to a Budget Build. My buggy is still for sale and i will build another but it will be another Legends/Limited class buggy because i realy enjoy driving and having to think about how to clear a course with as little penalties as i can. It realy does take a lot more work to run a vehicle like mine around these courses.
As i said on Pirate i met some of the Best people and learnt things i dont think i would have learnt had the Americans not come over.
From Team 4x4Sport Australia i think you for allowing us to learn from you.

Thanks tony, i'm still really scratching around, and trying to bend the finances at this stage. i was thinking about just going really basic i.e. rover running gear, lux axles, second hand coils... something along the lines of the homeless, something i could scratch together cheap, and have some fun in. as i said, chassis is the only stumbling point.RUFF wrote:Bring it on i realy need the Competition.
