Hi all. Wondering if anyone can shed some light on my query.... I have a Long Ranger fuel tank (diesel) under the 60 series. Its an additional tank, that uses the (to quote Mr ARB) "syphon system" to keep the main tank topped up until the long ranger is emptied.

Just wondering how I might go about converting it to use as the main tank. I want to remove the factory 95L unit. Is it set up to somehow feed fuel straight up the lines to the motor, or do I need at add stuff??

Any help appreciated. Would save a bit of messing about, considering my latest mod ;) (see members section)

I am guessing that the factory tank is where the fuel is picked up and returned to so you would need to move these to the reserve tank whick may require some welding or brazing to do this however it is possible and you shouldnt get any other problems. Fitting a serge tank and electric pick up pump may be a good idea though because you wont get a real good place to pick up the fuel on the reserve tank and it may starve on angles.

From memory the long ranger auxilary for the 60 is where the fuel is drawn from and where the guage sender is located, so removing the main OE tank shouldn't be to difficult. If its the model im thinking of when it is fitted the sender is transferred to the new aux-tank and it also becomes where the fuel pickup is. The filler is split with a Y junction so both tanks are filled simultaneously when at the servo and as fuel is drawn from the new aux- tank, it's position being lower, the fuel from the main tank 'syphons' down into it until it is empty. It is only once all the fuel from the main tank has syphoned down that the sender unit will start to drop as the level in the aux-tank goes down. Therefore if this is the way your current setup is, it should be easy enough to just remove the OE tank and reroute/close off some hosing to get it to work properly.
