I once bought a toyota corona for $100 - just bought it for the 18R in it. You may find that can be cheaper than buying just the engine.

What engine are you looking to replace? Because an 18R of any type is no great upgrade.

I agree with Stackson, buying the whole car will be cheaper. The 18r came out in the celicas, corolla, hilux, hiace and torago. So getting one cheap is easy. And they are a easy engine to rebuild yourself.

I once had a celica and went from a 18r to the 18rg fuel ingection and electronic ignition and it went heaps better. I did end up throwing it for a import engine thou.

im replacing a 12r so any thing has to be better

im hoping to find a 18rg but ill settle for a 18r

the reason for the 18r is because there is a kit available to bolt the 18r upto my current box and some mounts to mount it to the original engine mounts

also does any one know if the 22r will bolt into the same place a 18r will

eg i could buy the kit for the 18r and use it on a 22r
cheers

So this is in a Daihatsu right? Its a lot easier to reply if you give all the info on what you are trying to achive.

The 22R(2.4ltr) is a much better engine. Its more powerfull and its lighter. Even a 20R(2.0ltr) would be a better option again more power and lighter than an 18R.

I beleive the Bellhouising adapter would bolt up but couldnt be certain the engine mount adapters would bolt up. Area54 may be able to give you more idea on this as he has done the conversion 12R-18R in the past.

yer
sorry mate will do it next time
thanks for that

just wondering can an engine mount be made to make up the diffrent of say 80mm eg

the new engine mounts sits a further 80mm forward

if not what is the rough limit
i would be thinking some thing like 50mm any further and the mount becomes weak
