Rover 4.7 Diffs with LT 95

Post by Jay »

Has anyone fitted the Rover 4.7 CR&P diffs under a 4 speed LT 95 Rangie...
I know these diffsd are weak but I am wondering how high will the gearing be weather it will revolute a lot on the highway with a 33-4" tyre

thanks

I have an LT-95 with a 0.996 transfer case ratio. Not sure what ratio you are running ?

If I assume for your vehicle:
* 1.113 hi-ratio transfer case ratio
* 255/85R16 tyres ~33"
* 4.7 R&P diff

I estimate you will be doing 3443 rpm @100km/hr. Happy for someone to check my maths as I may be wrong.

I think it is about right which might be a bit high but it is a slow engine.
Other thing is that since I will not have lockers in the diffs I do not want to risk the 4.11 R&P set I have sitting around for the moment.

When a Rover diff failsyou expect a failure to the R&P as well no?

I'm a 3.54 man these days. Never run 4.7 diffs since my SIII and never done a diff. I'll leave it for others to comment on failures.

i guess I will not agree with this....as the game is all about the right gears and with large tyres 35"+ forget it unless you are the MD in you T-case
The 4.11 option is a nice one as well as the 4.75 and Toy swap as well

There's nothing to disagree with. I was stating I have no practical experience with your setup was politely stating that I'd leave commenting on practical experience to others who have it.

????

My orginal numbers were from calculations alone.

Ok got your point....I ,eamt I disagree that 3.54 will and suitable for larger tyres and lower gearing

Cheers
