Full time to free wheelin

Post by speed=t/d »

A mate has a petrol 80 series 95 model full time 4x4. 1/. for better economy is it possible to put lockable hubs in the front so that they will free wheeel? 2/. He's been quoted about 3 grand to do a LPG conversion (includes the spare wheel carrier) anyone recommend it, he has only got 90,000 k's up and its a tidy truck. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have converted mine with a kit from Marks Adapters here in Melbourne. The kit cost just under $600 and includes all that is needed (minus the carrier? bearing) hubs, replament for centre diff and am really happy with it. The centre diff lock is now the high range switch.

?????????

In my car you engage 4wd when the centre diff lock switch is on. You still use the shifter to change from high to low range.

Jeff
So your centre diff lock button changes gear in your transfer case for you.

I doubt there would be much difference in economy. Just get gas put on and leave it full time 4wd. full time is better in my opinion.

You could put free wheeling hubs on easily enough though, as some model 80s had them anyway/ but you would have to drive around with the center diff locked all the time
