Chassis Paint ( need some help)

Post by Jay »

Looking closely at my Disco chassis it looks a bit surface rusted and scratched... considering re-printing it with anti corrosion marine paint

Anyone done this job before??

Well, when I was in Saudi , my chassis was always clean from sandblasting. Had to repaint the grill and replace the headlights too.
It will not rust unless you go on beaches, and then it is the floor, sills, rear crossmember etc.
But if you still want to paint it, use POR15 or similar coating which seals the surface. White Knight is an Australian much cheaper brand. google POR15.

The chassis tend to rot from the inside more.

Best bet on the inside is Waxoil or similar.

Painting the outside looks nice but is less critical other than in the obvious mud traps.

I did have a thought about this though. What about using the anti-vandal paint that spray paint will not stick to? I wonder if it would help prevent mud sticking to it and give you somethig close to a self cleaning chassis?
