Dash lights

Post by ledgno1 »

Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience in replacing globes in the back of the dash instruments - especially on a late model Vitara with the rounded dash.

I have 97 V6 Vit which for the past 3 or 4 months has been down a light on the left hand side of the dash causing the fuel gauge and half the speedo to be in darkness - now the other side has gone also!

Have tried previously (unsuccessfully) to get to the back of it to replace the globes but can't get even enough room to squeeze my hand around the back of the instruments.

Does anybody have any ideas or tips - not keen on paying someone to do what should be an easy job :!:

Cheers,

Phil

you should be able to get to it from the front if you unscrew the instement cover. also have you checked the fuses coz when my lights went out it was the fuse blowing.

Thanks guys, everything was unscrewed previously. The problem is that with the wiring looms and the speedo cable attached to the back of the cluster there isn't enough slack to pull it out

I will definately check the fuses though - that would just be too easy if its the problem :)

Not sure if this applies, but in other cars I have worked on, you may have to disconnect the speedo cable to get better access?

While I have you attention, are the heater controls 'sposed to be backlit in a '96 coily? Mine aren't and its a pain!!!

Good luck

Thanks Nixon - will look into that! ;)

When you say a 96 Coily do you mean a Sierra or a Vit?

This is my 4th Suzi, started with an 84 narrow track, then a 96 coily, then a 400hp WRX, then the black 92 you see on the left. I now have a 97 Vit V6.

Both my Vit and the 96 coily should have lit climate control symbols - my Vit has already had them replaced as they were in darkness shortly after I bought it!
