Nissan PTO (Bulldozer Blade)

Post by doddzee »

Im currently turning my swb safari into a ute what can i do with my pto to improve my aproach angle?

I was thinking of setting it back towards the radiator a but and lifting it slightly. Has anyone got any ideas what i can do with it?

Has anyone relocated a pto to behind the cab and run the cable along the chassis? I have seen this done on an fj40 but am unsure if it could be done with a safari pto.

If you've got a body lift, you can lift the cradle by as much as the body lift, plus another 20mm. This leaves a few mm between the winch driveshaft and the underside of the radiator support panel.

You can remove some of the rad. support panel and replace it with a length of angle to lift the cradle further and shorten the winch driveshaft to move it back a bit also.

To mount the winch behind the cab, remove the PTO output from the gearbox and mount it upside down so the output faces reward. On the control lever, forward will now be reverse and vice versa. Things get pretty cramped between the LH chassis rail and the driveshaft too. You need to keep and eye on the rear driveshaft and watch that it doesn't start touching on the winch box when its articulating.

Another option is to mid-mount a PTO driven hydraulic winch behind the cab on the driver's side. Same as Kym Boltons new setup.

Repositioing PTO Winch

PM 4x4ROB for more info, this what he did:

As far as the winch goes, this mod was done once the 50 mm body lift was in place.

Simply modified the mounting brackets front and rear of the winch by extending them so that when it's pushed back, they were able to be lined up with the chasis rails.

Shorten the PTO shaft by cutting in front of the universal ( I made the mistake of cutting the area rear of the UJ and then had to modify the crossmember)

Weld the shaft together (straight), trim the grill and its done...

As I said we took about 85 mm of the chassis rails and because they bolt on, it didn't require certification

Then you can get a new bullbar made to suit.....

Ill take a look at mounting the winch at the back as it will be easier to do now wile the wagon is in peices. Will the winch be as capable of pulling in reverse as it is fowards if i do rear mount it?

Heres a link to my build up:

Just fit the winch to the ARB bar, gas cut the bar, make some angle bkts, weld on lifting the bar and pushing it all back. Dont forget to cut the driveshaft at the right place.
Have a look at mine next weekend when we do the devils staircase/rock garden
worthog who likes to play in the mud, just follow me, if you can
